1 Overview
1.1 Background
CSC-2000 series automation system (CSC-2000 system) is a layered and
distributed substation automation system, with the integrated functions of
monitor, control, measurement, record, relay protection, safe-automation
equipments, communication and remote control. The system has the ability
to operate in different voltage levels and guarantee the power system
running economically, safely, reliably, and stably. CSC-2000 system can be
widely used in different voltage level substations.

Basing on years of research and development in substation and experience

of engineering application, and referring to international standard, CSC-2000
(V2) substation automation system (V2 system) is improved to adapt the
development of higher voltage level and larger system, and solve the
problems of interoperability of operation systems. To sum up, V2 system is
the comprehensive upgrade of CSC-2000 system.

V2 system passed the technology authentication of China Electric Machinery

Engineering Institute and acquired higher evaluation on Nov.12, 2005. The
local SCADA, telecontrol, bay layer protection, and bay control equipments
meet the IEC61850 and can be applied in various substations in 1000kV
level and below. V2 system is also compatible with present protocols. That
solves the problem of transition from current protocols to IEC61850. Because
of the excellent open-endedness, it is convenient to apply the current
substation automation equipments and upgrade the system.

1.2 System characteristics and architecture

1.2.1 System characteristics

Besides inheriting the design of distribution and object-oriented and the

advantage of generation of CSC-2000 system, V2 system supports the
following new characteristics:

 Supporting multiple operation systems (Windows/UNIX) and multiple

and mixed (32bit/64bit) hardware platform;

 Supporting IEC61850 protocol;

 On the basis of SCADA data platform, integrated voltage quality control

function (VQC);

 SCADA system integrates with interlock function and realize complete

operation sequence function;

 Supporting the design of graphics and database integration and topology

analysis dynamic coloring function.

1.2.2 System architecture

All the function modules, including communication, AVQC, interlock system,

and operation sequence, adopt kit design, so they can be configured on
computer in accordance with different requirements of customer. There are
two typical configuration schemes: distributed configuration and centralized
configuration. In distributed configuration structure, main applications can
operate in separately different servers. For centralized configuration, these
applications are integrated into the two operation station. Due to V2 system
supports Windows/UNIX mixed platform, Windows operation system and
UNIX operation system can be used in operation station and server
respectively for distributed configuration architecture, in order to bring
convenience for operators and guarantee the reliability. In addition, high
configured hardware platform V2 system adopted can ensure to achieve all
the SAS function even the system is quite integrated. V2 system also
supports flexible scalability. Excluding telecontrol, all the functions can be
realized in single computer for a substation in 110kV level and below.

color, extension, color of cell, format of report.

21
Figure 23 Example 1 of Report Template

Figure 24 Example 2 of Report Template

3.1.4.1 Definition of Cell

In report template, cell includes four types: character string, date, point, and
formula. In the template, the point can be indicated by “****”, and automatic
filled point can be pointed at “**”. The automatic filled points depend on the
defined point, and cannot be edited directly, but can be proceeded with “****”

22
point. The formula begins with symbol of “#”, such as “#SUM(A2: A35)”. In
the undefined blank cell, double click to pop up dialog of cell type.

Figure 25 Window of Cell Type Selection

Note: the cell definition above is to define the blank cell. If double clicking the cell
defined with type of character string, formula or point, this window will not pop up but
the corresponding definition window will.

1. Define date

In the dialog of Select Cell Type, select Date and confirm, and then the cell
is defined to be date type with the default of current date. The display date of
date type cell is consistent of the date of report in browsing mode. Only one
date type cell can be defined in report. A new date type cell will erase last cell
defined in date type.

2. Define characteristic string

In the dialog of Select Cell Type, select String and confirm, and then the
following dialog can be shown. The content of string type cell is fixed.
Additional, characteristic string of time can be automatically filled.

Figure 26 Window of Character String Input

3. Define Point

In the dialog of Select Cell Type, select Point Edit and confirm, and then the
following dialog can be shown.

23
Figure 27 Window of Point Definition

In Measurands and Objects node, the specific digital signal, analog or energy
can be selected. The relative statistics types can be set, such as current
value, maximum and minimum time of analog input, and absolute energy. In
the equipment node, VQC related equipments can be selected, such as
capacitance, reactance, double-coil transformer and triple-coil transform. The
statistics type of relative point of these equipments can be set such as times
of rise/enable and reduce/disable.

Additional, the pointing mode of point can also be set, including initial time,
time of step, pointing number and so on. When the number of pointing is
more than 1, the arrangement direction of point can be set. Furthermore, if
the type of statistics is current value for AI, the colors of upper limit and lower
limit can be set. The upper and lower limit value is the same as limit value of
AI in real-time database. In the following, the point definition and statistics
mode will be specifically introduced. If it is known that the interior ID32,
Global ID (Non-equipment ID) of equipment matched Measurands and
objects, the name can be configured via the method of front symbol of
(ana/dig/pul/vqc) +ID, for example, ana36 is the AI equaled to 36 in interior
ID32.

24
Because the arrangement direction of report is vertical, so vertical is in
default, and horizontal is optional.

Note: as mentioned above, there are two types of point: manual defined point by
“****” and automatic filled point by “**”. In the definition of point, when the pointing
number of point definition is more than1, the automatic filled points will appear, which
belong to manual defined point and cannot be edited. If it is needed to delete, copy a
paste certain point definition, the related filled points should also be selected and
edited together.

For the current value of analog, the colors in daily report and month report
can be used to show whether the value is off-normal upper limit and lower
limit in real-time database. In default, off-normal upper limit color and lower
limit color are red and blue respectively, and the normal color is black.
However, after defining report, the upper and lower limit of analog in real-time
database change, so operator need to redefine the point.

In additional, full point value can be selected to display in month report, but
this is the superposition with the function of daily function. It is recommended
to display the full point value of specific time each day.

4. Define formula

In the dialog of Select Cell Type, select Formula Edit and confirm, and then
the following dialog can be shown.

Figure 28 Window of Formula Definition

25
It could be seen that the cell of formula definition is pink, to prompt user to
only edit formula in the cell. First, left click the formula edition bar, where
displays an equal sign. The formula can be edited behind the equal sign. The
cell is shown as coordinate, for example, the cell in first row and A column is
A1, and the collection from the third row B column to H column can be
marked as B3:H3. Take the sum of cells from the seventh row C column to
thirtieth row C column as an example, it can be realized by inputting sum
(C7:C30).

The following functions can be applied in formula definition.

 Trigonometric and inverse trigonometric function: SIN, COS, ASIN,

ACOS

 Absolute Value: ABS()

 Square Root: SQRT()

 Average Value Function: AVERAGE()

 Max Function: MAX()

 MIN Function: MIN()

 SUM Function: SUM()

The first three functions above are single value functions, and the rest can be
used for multiple ones. They are also can be operated with “+”, “-”, “*”, “/”,
and so on.

After defining a formula cell, it can be copied and paste to several formula.
Refer to the content of Area Cut Copy section for examples.

3.1.4.2 Definition of Report Format

The definition of report format is divided into two parts: one is the definition of
complete format such as display extension, front color, background color,
display proportion, and printing area setup, which is named as report setup;
the other one is the definition of local area format, such as font, color, and
display mode, which is named cell format setup.

Select area and the format of the cell to pop up window of cell format. It can
be set the table style, color, number format and so on.

Figure 32 window of Cell Format

After selecting area, the font format and cell format can also be set according

29
to the two function buttons in toolbar of report.

Note: In Windows platform, the selected area displays reverse color. The selected
area loses color when right-click floating menu pop up, and will be recovered when
floating menu disappears.

In font format window, the font, size, color and the style can be set, including
Bold, Italic, Strikeout, and Underline. Because the font relies on the font
resource file of operating system, it cannot display when font resource does
not exist. It is suggested to use Serif font.

In the cell format window, Alignment, Border color, and number format can be
set. It is suggested to use Horizontal Center Vertical Center. The number
format can be used to set the style of number displayed in cell. It is only
available for the cells to display number, such as values of the Analog.
General is the default format, which is not limited format. The usual used
placeholder includes “0”, “#”, and “.”. “0” indicates that 0 is filled when there is
no bit. “.” shows the display position of decimal. For example, “#.###” means
the data only displaying the last three digits to decimal. However, “0.00”
shows the data displaying the last two digits to decimal, and filling “0” if less
than two digits. It needs to be noted that the display effect of 0 values is not
good if only “#” in use. For example, in “#.##”, 0 value displays as “.”, so it is
recommended that two placeholders can be used cooperatively, such as
“0.0##”.

Note: Merge Cell is used to combine the cells in selected area which is used to
display the fixed content, like the report name shown as following figure. If editing the
merged cell, it needs to double click on the upper left corner of the cell to edit. If not,
the edition cannot be displayed.

30
Figure 33 Example of Report Template

3.1.4.3 Area Edition

Though a complex template can be made by defining cell and setting the
format, more operations are modification, copy and batch processing on the
current base to improve efficiency. These operations are based on one
particular area, so they can be named area edition. The command option of
area edition can be executed in the right click floating menu.

1. Automatically filling time

Though the cell can be selected as character string type to input text in
definition of cell, for the text with strong regularity and sequence, such as
time and number, it can be selected the mode of batch filling.

Left click to select initial cell and right click to select Filling Time in floating
menu. The pop-up menu is shown as the figure below. The text format can
be selected as “2:00”, “1”, “Monday”, “1”, “January”, and so on. The
explanation is as follows:

 “2:00” shows the filling time is format of “HH24:MI”, which is usually used
in daily report.

 “1” shows filling number.

 “Monday” shows to fill the text with unit of week.

 “1” shows to fill text with daily format, which is used in month report.

 “January” shows to fill text with month format, which is used in season
report and year report.

31
Figure 34 window of automatically filling text

Take day report as an example, it needs to display whole point value of 24

hour in a day, and make annotation on the side of time point. The operation is
as follows:

Select Text Format as “2:00”, Start Time as 0 O’clock, Step Time as 60

minutes, Sample Data Sum as 24, and arrangement direction as vertical.
After confirmation, it can automatically fill time.

area. If there are DI, AI, Energy, VQC equipments in the selected area,
Change Point will fully substitute all points consistent to the selected point
type.

The dialog box of Change Point is the same as dialog box of point definition,
supporting the search function of using interior ID32, GlabaleID of equipment
of Measurands and objects. Input the mark of point such as ana36, dig12,
vqc222 TO ID32 edition box and then search the point.

36
Figure 39 window of Change Point

Additional, the copy function is convenient to make formula. For example,

B2:B8 column is a column of point definition. If defining C2:C8 column, which
is 1.732 times of B2:B8 column, we can complete the definition of the first cell,
such as define D2=C2*1.732. Refer to Figure 40.

3.2 Curve
Curve can significantly display the change rule of data and vividly reflect the
operation condition and load changing condition of station equipment in
power system. In V2 SCADA system, history curve can display AI information
and other information, which is helpful to analyze the trend of equipment
running and load changing. Real-time curve supports two modes, time
window mode and 24 hours mode to reflect the real-time change condition of
data.

In order to bring convenience to user, the system adopts the conception of

“curve group”. Before using curve, the curve group should be defined first to
put the curves with same type or needed comparison in one curve group. A
single curve also can be put in a curve group.

Click Start → Applications → Graph Applications → Curve to run the curve

program. History curve or real-time curve can be selected by option of label
page.

real-time curve. Refer to Figure 60 and Figure 61.

Figure 60 Window Mode of real-time mode

Figure 61 Hour Mode of real-time mode

3.2.2.1 Window Mode

The length of time window and sampling intervals can be set in this mode.
The maximal samples in time window= length of time/sampling intervals.
When curve started up, the current latest value will be read by bay and set in
time window. If samples exceed the maximal value, the first sample will be
moved in sequence. Therefore, the real-time curve in this mode is movable.
It can fully reflect current changes of real-time AI, but cannot indicate the
whole change trend.

54
3.2.2.1 Hour Mode

The mode can describe the samples from zero clock to the time of curve
starting up. The new samples can also be reflected to curve according to the
bay of AI. Additional, this mode supports the comparison with former curve
(shown by dotted line).

4 Real-time Alarm
4.1 Introduction
Real-time alarm includes following several types: graphics flash, alarm push
graph, fault sound, sound alarm, real-time alarm window, and alarm indicator.

Graphics Flash: When there is point in alarm, the corresponding graphic icon
in graphics will flash.

Alarm Push Graph: When protection event occurs with CB (Circuit Breaker)
tripping, the system considers it is a fault and searches graph of
corresponding point and then pushes from window.

Fault Sound: When alarm occurs, whistle and bell sound rings. On one hand,
the sound can be triggered by bell and whistle, which are connected with
binary output of IED; On the other hand, PC can be used to play the sound
files of bell and whistle.

Sound Alarm: When alarm occurs, the recorded voice file can be played.

Real-time Alarm Window: Real-time alarm window can be used to show the
latest 1000 piece of alarm information. It can be selected to pop up alarm
window or not.

Alarm Indicator: When alarm occurs, the indicator corresponding to the alarm
will flashing until the alarm is confirmed.

The alarm type, alarm action and completed configured alarm category of
CSC-2000(V2) alarm system can be self-defined in accordance with
requirement of different condition.

Alarm Type: system divides all alarm events into several types by ordinary
condition for convenience. Furthermore, the new alarm type can also be
added in system.

Alarm Action: the action after occurrence of alarm, such as display, sound,
whistle and bell, can be defined. An action corresponds to one or multiple
alarm type. A specific alarm can also define its own action. If an alarm does
not configure alarm action, the action will be implemented following the
action of belonging alarm type.

Alarm Category: because of the big quantity of alarm type, it is necessary to

arrange the alarm type in categories. The alarm type can be divided by
similar property, such as analog and digital. It can also be divided by
importance, such as fault and general alarm. An alarm category corresponds
to an alarm indicator.

56
4.2 Real-time Alarm Window
When alarm occurs, real-time alarm window will analyze and display specific
information to user. Real-time alarm window includes two parts: alarm
indicators and alarm window. The detailed interface is shown below.

are added.

When adding a self-defined alarm of analog, eight alarm types are added,
high limit, low limit and so on.

When adding a self-defined alarm of remote control, three alarm types are
added, such as telecommand selection.

When deleting a self-defined alarm, the corresponding alarm types will also
be deleted.

The self-defined alarm type can be added to alarming group, and mapped to
its own action and specific analog point.

62
4.2.4 Timing and Times Alarm

The alarm system can realize timing and times alarm as well as second
alarm for some especially important alarm. Refer to database administration
section of engineering and operation manual for detailed configuration.

4.2.5 Example of Configuration

According to the current standard, definition of current standard, alarm of

general requirements can be met. Some special requirements can be
realized by defining the alarm type, alarm action and analog. An example will
be introduced in follow.

After adding the sound alarm, some users require to distinguish the alarm
voice of ordinary isolator and ground isolator. In standard definition, the
digital types of the two are isolator, so the default corresponding alarm types
are both isolator open and isolator closed. Hence, for the two alarms, the
alarm action and the voice files are same, too.

There are two kinds of methods to solve the problem in current system
configuration.

 Method 1: Re-define alarm type to the digital of ground isolator.

Sept 1: Add the self-defined alarm type of isolator, and match the alarm
type to appropriate alarm category.

Sept 2: Add alarm action for ground isolator open, ground isolator close
and correspondingly voice file.

Sept 3: Match the corresponding relation between alarm type and alarm
action.

Sept 4: Define the alarm type of each ground isolator as ground isolator
in database configuration.

The logic used in the method is: a point can alarm according to alarm type
defined in system when the alarm type is in default. If the alarm type of the
point has been defined, it will alarm following the self-defined alarm type. The
self-defined alarm type should also correspond to self-defined alarm action.

 Method 2: Re-define alarm action of digital of ground isolator.

Step 1: Add a special alarm action. The voice file is vacant but enabling
the voice alarm.

Step 2: Define the alarm action of each isolator as this special alarm
action in database configuration.

Step 3: Re-define this DI alarm sound of open and close.

63
The logic used in the method is: a point can alarm according to alarm action
corresponding to alarm type when the alarm action is in default. If the alarm
action of the point has been defined, it will act following self-defined action.
Action of alarm type is invalid. Here, the self-defined action is set and original
action of alarm type including voice files is ineffective. However, the voice file
of self-defined action is vacant, so the alarm will be sounded in accordance
with the sounds of open and close.

4.3 Frequent Question and Answer

Q1: Real-time alarm window does not display alarm.

6 History Information
6.1 History Query
6.1.1 General introduction
History query module is mainly applied with the functions of reappearance,
sorting order, and search for history data. It realized the multi-level inquiry
from substation to bay, then to type. It can also classify the inquiry content.
It is very simple to use History Query Module. The settings of query will be
introduced below.

6.1.2 Interface of History Query

The interface can be started up in following operations:

1. Setting of Query
Setting of query includes the settings of substation, bay and type. Only one
substation can be selected, but more than one bays and types can be
selected. The bay selected should belong to the substation, so the name of
bay in bay list will be change with the alternation of substation. However, “All
Bay” is an exception, because this item exists in all the substation lists. In
query, when the item “All Bay” is selected, other item in the list would be
neglected. Hence, once “All Bay” is selected, the query will proceed
according to all bays. The item “All Type” has the same usage.
2. Query Time Setting
Here, the starting and end time of the query can be set. When first open the
history query, the end time is current date, and the starting time is the day
before current date. When the starting time is later than end time, an error
will be prompted.

77
In query, the time interval should be small than 2 years. If it exceeds, a dialog
box will also pop up to prompt mistake.

3. Query
Following the setting of query and time, the query result from history
database will be displayed in the table on the right. If there is no content
found in the setting range, the following warning box will pop up.
