CLINICAL REPORT
I was privilege to go to Mt Sinai Hospital located in Thika Makongeni. The first day
we were introduced to all the nurses in all the departments, the process was
made easy and free enough that incase one did not understand he or she was able
to ask questions for clarity and understanding. I was able to take vitals
temperature, blood pressure and cleaned the nurse station.
Each day was a learning process as we were placed in different departments
for better understanding of each patient and their needs. I was able to learn how
to amputate patients, performing modified passive range of motion {PROM} for
both the knee shoulder and ankle, the care of a catheter, when I was placed in
theater, I was able to learn proper Donning and Doffing of PPE. In triage, I learnt
how to take blood pressures, respiration, weighing of patients and also measuring
of the sugar levels. The nurses were friendly, they taught us how to record the
vitals down mouth care for both kids and adults, providing perennial care,
preparing patients for meals and feeding clients who cannot feed themselves. I
was among the lucky one chosen to attend medical camps together with the
marketing team. In the field I learnt how to communicate with clients
understanding each of their needs and helping them.
Some of the challenges that I faced were lack of handwash soaps in the sink
areas but immediately it was communicated the issue was handled. I thank
Madam Esther and all the nurses in particular for making the learning process
easy always making sure that we learn new things daily and always encouraging us
to continue learning this is just a stepping stone.
