II. NOTES Elevator Trim SET FOR T.O
General: This checklist is designed for a efficient operation flow for one Exterior Inspection PERFORM
pilot, but I tried to keep it as close as possible to the real procedures. The
procedures are intentionally simplified in some regards, to make this
guide accessible for beginners. BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE
MIXTURE Brakes TEST & SET
- Lean for EGT Peak @ 1.200 RPM for Ground Operations, to prevent Circuit Breakers IN
Spark Plug Fouling. Avionic Master OFF
- Lean for 50° Rich of EGT Peak @ 75% Power for recommended Ignition Switch OFF
Mixture during Cruise.
Electrical Equipment OFF
Fuel Selector Valve BOTH
PITOT HEAT Fuel Shutoff Valve ON (full in)
- ON in Icing Conditions = visible Moisture & below 5 °C
STARTING THE ENGINE
Doors CLOSED

VA (Maneuver Speed) 90 - 105 KIAS Ignition Switch HOLD START
VFE 10° (max. Flaps 10° Speed) 110 KIAS when Engine fires:
- release Ignition Switch
VFE >10° (max. Flaps >10° Speed) 85 KIAS - smoothly advance Mixture to FUL RICH
Oil Pressure VERIFY
Throttle 1.000 RPM
Mixture LEAN

AFTER ENGINE START / BEFORE TAXI NORMAL TAKEOFF with FLAPS 0-10°
Internal Lights AS REQ - line up and brake
Cabin Heat AS REQ - verify Flaps are set as desired
Avionics Master ON - release Brakes
Avionics/COM/NAV SET - smoothly advance Throttle to FULL
Autopilot SET - rotate @ 50 - 55 KIAS (d.o.w.)
Altimeter SET LOCAL - initial climb out with 70 - 80 KIAS
Fuel Quantity CHECK when clear of obstacles & safe altitude:
Pitot Heat AS REQ - retract Flaps (above 60 KIAS)
Flaps SET FOR T.O. (0 - 10°) - accelerate to 75 - 85 KIAS
Elevator Trim SET FOR T.O.
Flight Controls FULL & FREE MOVEMENT VX (Best Angle of Climb/Flaps Up) 62 KIAS
VY (Best Rate of Climb/Flaps Up) 74 KIAS
ATC CLEARANCE (TAXI) AS REQ / DES
Taxi Lights AS REQ / ON
SHORT FIELD TAKEOFF with FLAPS 10°
Transponder SET & STBY
- line up and brake
- verify Flaps are set 10°
TAXI
- smoothly advance Throttle to FULL
- release Parking Brake - release Brakes
- check the Brakes and Steering - slight back pressure on controls
- check Engine and Flight Instruments - rotate @ 45 - 50 KIAS (d.o.w.)
- use LEAN Mixture during Taxi to prevent Plug Fouling - climb out with 50 - 55 KIAS
when clear of obstacles & safe altitude:
- retract Flaps (above 60 KIAS)
GROUND CHECK
- accelerate to 75 - 85 KIAS
Parking Brake SET
Fuel Quantity CHECK VX (Best Angle of Climb/Flaps Up) 62 KIAS
Mixture FULL RICH VY (Best Rate of Climb/Flaps Up) 74 KIAS
Fuel Selector Valve verify BOTH
CLIMB
Throttle 1.800 RPM
Magneto Check PERFORM Flaps verify UP
- Ingnition → R → BOTH → L → BOTH Taxi Lights OFF
- verify max. Drop = 150 RPM and max. Diff. = 50 RPM Landing Lights AS DES / OFF
Vacuum Gauge CHECK
Ammeter CHECK @TRANSITION ALTITUDE
Engine Instruments CHECK Altimeters SET STD (29.92 / 1013)
Annunciator Panel CHECK & CONSIDER
Throttle IDLE or 1.000 RPM CLIMB POWER & SPEEDS
Throttle FULL
Mixture below 3.000 ft → FULL RICH
BEFORE TAKEOFF
above 3.000 ft → LEAN for MAX.RPM
Doors CLOSED & LOCKED Enroute Climb Speed 70 - 85 KIAS

Pitot Heat AS REQ - recommended → lean to 50° RICH OF PEAK EGT
Mixture below 3.000 ft → FULL RICH - lean at 75% power before reducing power setting
above 3.000 ft → LEAN for MAX.RPM
CRUISE POWER SETTINGS @ ISA
ATC CLEARANCE (DEPARTURE) AS REQ / DES

Estimated Top Of Descent (TOD) Formula:
(Cruise Alt. – Dest. Alt.) / 1.000 x 3 +15 = TOD in NM Out
This is just a rule of thumb to obtain a 3° descent path.

DESCENT AFTER LANDING (after vacating Runway)


Throttles AS DES Taxi Lights ON
Mixture ADJUST / FULL RICH FOR IDLE Landing Lights OFF
Fuel Selector Valves verify BOTH Strobe Lights OFF
Avionics/COM/NAV/ILS SET AS REQ Transponder STBY
Flaps UP

SECURING THE AIRCRAFT

Mixture below 3.000 ft → FULL RICH Taxi Lights OFF
above 3.000 ft → LEAN for MAX.RPM Electrical Equipment OFF
Enroute Climb Speed 70 - 85 KIAS Avionics Master OFF
Mixture IDLE CUT-OFF
Ignition Switch OFF
VISUAL APPROACH & PATTERN LANDING
All Lights OFF
Approach at ~ 1.000 ft above Landing Elevation or use proper Master Switch OFF
Procedure Altitudes (according to charts). Fuel Selector Valve LEFT or RIGHT

~ 5 NM OUT
Landing Lights ON
Mixture FULL RICH
Altimeters SET LOCAL
- Speed → ~ 100 KIAS
@ DOWNWIND LEG
- Flaps → 10° (VFE 110 KIAS)
- Speed → descelerate to ~ 80 KIAS
@ BASE LEG
- Flaps → 20° (VFE 85 KIAS)
- Speed → maintain ~ 80 KIAS
@ FINAL
- Flaps → FULL
- Speed → descelerate to 60-70 KIAS (d.o.w)
@ TRESHHOLD
- Throttle → IDLE
- Flare to Touchdown with Main Landing Gear first

ILS APPROACH LANDING


Approach at ~ 3.000 ft above Landing Elevation or use proper
Procedure Altitudes (according to charts).

~ 12 NM OUT
Landing Lights ON
Mixture FULL RICH
Altimeters SET LOCAL
- Speed → ~ 100 KIAS
@ GLIDESOPE CAPTURE
- Flaps → 10° (VFE 110 KIAS)
- descent Rate = 5 * Groundspeed (or 10*Groudspeed/2)
- Speed → maintain 100 KIAS
@ 3 NM out
- Flaps → 20° (VFE 85 KIAS)
- Speed → ~ 80 KIAS
@ 1 NM
- Flaps → FULL
- Speed → descelerate to 60-70 KIAS (d.o.w)
@ TRESHHOLD
- Throttle → IDLE
- Flare to Touchdown with Main Landing Gear first

GO AROUND
- THROTTLE → FULL
- retract Flaps → 20°
- climb with 60 KIAS
when clear of obstacles & safe altitude:
- retract Flaps (above 60 KIAS)
- accelerate to 75 - 85 KIAS
