Gazzingan Purposive Communication

BSCE 1

I. Describe the scenario shown in video 1 and 2.

I would describe the scenario in video 1 as having a misleading way of communicating because
the message that the first person acted out was not accurate to the last person’s actions. They are
playing the game of message relay, which is to act out the word or phrase that is given and pass
it from one person to the other without talking, then have the last person guess the word or
phrase. In video 2, I would describe the scenario as chaotic. It is seen that the words that one
wanted to express are different from what the other could understand, which made Mr. President
and Condoleezza feel frustrated and angry at each other and made the whole conversation
chaotic and confusing.

II. Identify what seems to be the problem in both scenarios.

The problem that I noticed in the first video is that the people are having a hard time
communicating with only their body movements. The people who were playing the message
relay game did not pass the message properly due to the way they moved their body that gave the
next person the wrong interpretation. While the problem in the second video is that Mr. President
and Condoleezza did not elaborate or explain the words that they wanted to express. They are
experiencing communication barriers that made them misunderstand the words that they’re
trying to say to each other.

III. Identify the source of the problem.

It is evident in video 1 that since they are playing a game, they are not taking the activity
seriously. They are making fun of each other, and the others are not confident enough to imitate
the previous person’s actions. They are also not using verbal communication that gives them
limited information and knowledge about the message. The source of the problem in video 2 is
that they are saying different words with the same pronunciation. They did not bother giving
each other a chance to explain the things that they’re meaning to say and just corresponded with
what they understood.

IV. What can be inferred from both videos as far as the process of communication is
concerned?

It may come into conclusion that there could be some misunderstandings, misinterpretations, or
problems in communicating with other people if we are not able to encode the right expressions
that we say to them or show them. It is important that we should give the people the same
thought or idea that we have in our minds to prevent the limits and barriers in communication,
whether if it is through verbal or non-verbal way of exchanging information.
