Design Problem

Our friend’s lanai is full of unnecessary stuff and is not utilized properly. They are just
using it as their laundry area and we thought that it is not suitable for its job. It doesn’t
have any impact on their house and it has the potential to be the highlight point of their
place. Another thing is, this part of their house is not well-lit. It looks dull, flat, and
boring especially during the night. The only source of light is from the inside of their
house so we thought of revamping it to look more pleasing outside

Design Solution

Every time we come here, we always think of using this part as an outdoor dining place
because of its ambiance and fresh breeze especially when the night comes. So we
decided to give it a make-over and put retro outdoor string lights to achieve the cozy al
fresco. To fully utilize the space, we also added benches and tables so that visitors can
enjoy eating here with the view of stars in the night sky.

This is us trying to figure out where to put all of this junk and sweeping all the dried leaves and
dust so that we can start planning out where to put the benches and of course the star of the
show, the hanging light bulbs. We really wanted to maximize the given space by making it as
clean as possible.

Next, we started to place the furniture like benches and table, also we decided to put more
plants to make the place alive and have that fresh and breezy atmosphere so that people can
enjoy the al fresco vibes everytime they come in this area.

And this is where the magic starts. We are struggling for a good 30 minutes trying to figure out
how to put each bulb and how to hang this within the given area. After two hours, we finally
finished hanging all the lights up, putting all the finishing touches and viola, our al fresco project
is finally complete.

Before

We forgot to take photos for the “before” pictures of the place before we started sweeping.
That's why the place looks a little bit presentable here. As you can see there are no present
lights in the area and it is completely abandoned, that’s why we picked this place for our
project.

After

TAH DAH !!! The place comes to life with our choice of lighting. The hanging light bulbs really
suit the outdoor vibes that we are looking for. The plants and the furniture sums up the whole
place and it is ready for fun, eating, and partying all throughout the night.
