UNIT 4: FOR A BETTER COMMUNITY


READING: TEENAGERS AND VOLUNTEER WORK

I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to
1. Knowledge
- Use related lexical items to talk about teenagers and voluntary work
- Revise linking words, phrases, structures to say about teenagers and voluntary work
2. Compentences

- Work in teams and pairs
Linguistic competences:
- Read for main ideas and specific information in a text about a volunteer club.
- Interpret the meaning of new words from contexts.
- Exchange opinions and talk about volunteer work.

- Have positive attitudes towards volunteer work.
II. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS
+ Teacher: Textbook, board, chalk, laptop, projectors, A0 papers and video about students with
volunteer work.
+ Students: textbooks, workbooks, pens, pencils…
III. PROCEDURE
A. OGANIZATION (1 minute):
- Settle the class
- Check Ss’ attendances
B. CHECKING UP: (2 minutes)
C. NEW LESSON
. WARM UP (4 minutes):

1. Aims: + Present the topic of the reading

2. Contents: + Watch the video doing volunteer work

3. Products: Topic of the reading “Teenagers and volunteer work”

Task 5: Organizing a Volunteer Open Day

Step 1: Students opinions and and talk about volunteer


work.
- T divides the class into 2 halves.

- Sts in the first half will work in groups:

+ They are going to organise volunteer work.

+ They are going to make posters to introduce


about their volunteer group.

+ They are going to present their posters to


attract members to participate in their groups.

-In the other half, sts will work individually:

+ They want to participate in a volunteer group.

+ They need to jot down their preferences of the


volunteer group: who they want to help, what
activities they can do……

+ They are going around the volunteer group and


decide whether they join the group.

Step 2:

- In the first half, students will make posters and


present about their projects.

- Students in the second half will ask questions for


clarification and then decide which group suits them
best

- T joins in the groups and listens to their


performances.

- T takes notes sts’ difficulties.

Step 3:

- Sts in the second half explain reasons for their
