Time: 45 minutes

ORGANIZATION OF THE CLASS: individual work, group work


 ACTIVITY ONE – Conversation – 10 minutes
- organization of the class ( the attendance of the pupils)
− checking homework.

2. ACTIVITY TWO: Introducing the topic – 5 minutes

The teacher shows the students a picture of Princess Diana and Mother Theresa and asks them
whether they know who they are and if they have anything in common. After the students give
answers, the teacher writes on the screen the word CHARITY and asks them to say what they think
about when they hear it. The title of the lesson is announced: Helping others

3. ACTIVITY THREE: pre- listening – 10 minutes


The teacher gives the students an interactive worksheet containing logos and information on
different charitable organizations. (handout 2 : https://www.liveworksheets.com/1-fb1662868qb ).
The students do the exercises and answer the teacher’s questions .
Additional questions: a) Is it important to help the others? b) Have you ever donated to charity?
How did you feel? c) Have you heard of any charity foundations? d) Should wealthy people be
obliged to donate? Does charitable work help solving social problems?.
The teacher tells the students that they are going to listen to a recording about ways in which people
help others and asks them to take a look at handout 1. The students are asked to predict what
charities are the people from the recording involved in.

4. ACTIVITY FOUR : while- listening -10 minutes

The teacher plays the recording and the students do the task on handout 3, then they check the
answers together.

5. ACTIVITY FIVE: post- listening ( discussion)- 7 minutes

The teacher asks the students which of the charities mentioned in the recording
would appeal to them the most and why.
The teacher writes on the screen the following questions and asks students to give their
opinion.
1. Which way to support a charity is best ( buy , donate, volunteer)?
2. What makes you interested in getting involved in a charity?
3. Does getting charity makes people lazy or dependent?

6. ACTIVITY SIX: feedback and homework - 3 minutes

The teacher gives feedback to the students and announces homework: write an opinion essay
starting from the quote: “Charity begins at home”.
