2.0 Research Methodology

In the previous research, the discussion focuses on the identified problem that is vaccine

hesitancy in regards to COVID-19 and its substantial impact on the target community. Meanwhile, this

section elucidates the research method and tools, and the process of data collection which were

utilized to gather data to prove that the proposed solution will be effective in addressing the identified

problem in Barangay San Carlos, Lipa City. This chapter comprised the research subject, parameters

of the study, methods of data collection, sampling technique, and data analysis.

2.1 Data Collection Methods and Tools

The utilization of quantitative and qualitative research design and methods have been used for

the process of gathering sufficient data for the reason of formulating an innovative and sustainable

solution to the identified problem. As per the use of the quantitative method, a survey questionnaire

was used to gather pertinent quantitative data about the current condition of the community in regards

to COVID-19 and vaccine hesitancy. The research group looked upon data that was both authentic

and relevant to the identified problem. The usage of convenient sampling in the survey questionnaire

was done to accomplish the tasks of identification of the condition of vaccine hesitancy in the target

community and evaluating the proposed solution. Out of 7,756 residents living in the barangay, 30

residents—ages 12 years old and above— had responded to the survey, representing the

community’s total population. The gathering of data was done upon the date of March 14, 2022, to

March 21, 2022. The data in the survey questionnaire that was distributed focuses on the experience

of the respondents and their families regarding vaccine hesitancy and the feedback in regards to the

proposed solution. With this, the research group was able to identify the overall effect of the identified

problem, vaccine hesitancy, on the community, and with the inclusion of the barangay officials,

evaluating the feasibility of the proposed solution in addressing the identified problem was also
conducted. In the process of data gathering, the inclusion of approval and consent in the survey was

facilitated with respect for the residents and for the authenticity of the data that was gathered. The

quantitative data that was gathered was statistically computed using the statistical software SPSS.

Furthermore, the analysis of the results from the data gathered was organized in a line graph and

written reports.

As part of the qualitative method, interview questions were conducted with the residents of the

target community to gather data about the current condition of the community in terms of COVID-19

vaccine hesitancy. The prepared interview questions assisted the researchers to gain a deeper

understanding of their insights and the existing solutions to deal with vaccine hesitancy. As one of the

members of the research group lives in the target community, the help of the aforementioned

member’s family was conductive as being intermediary, so viable residents will be prioritized for the

interviews, as well as that they will also be helping with the observations needed from the residents in

the community. The qualitative data was gathered and analyzed further for authenticity and validity. It

was turned into written reports that will be utilized as further support for the proposed solution.

2.2 Research Process

By identifying and being informed about the relevant information about the identified problem,

the research group had a deeper understanding of what is being researched and the purpose of said

research. The research group has explained why the identified problem is considered a problem,

especially in the target community. The data gathering from reliable sources via; survey

questionnaires and interviews on the target community has been done accordingly with authenticity

and reliability for the accomplishment of the writing of the research data. The analysis of the gathered

data was done next by comparing each data accordingly to the identified problem.
Lastly, the conclusion of the research process was done accordingly by stating the importance

of the proposed solution and as well as without forgetting to relay information in regards to the

relevant United Nations Sustainable Development Group or UNSDGs.
