When I was a child, my dad was the founder of a small restaurant.

At that time, I didn’t know

about leadership or anything like that, I just knew that I was proud of him due to his success and
of course, I dreamt of being a leader like him. But success didn’t last so long, something wrong
happened with the restaurant, and the success was harder to be reached again, I heard that people
blame him for his wrong leadership style like he was too strict and too trusting of his staff. I lost
faith in him a lot and I doubted his ability. Then, I wanted to study business administration to
have enough skills to fix his mistakes, however, I little by little realized that becoming a good
leader is such a tough thing as I saw my father tired, I saw his unrewarded efforts, I saw that he
felt helpless because he couldn't make his career great again. After that, I gave up on my dream
of getting into a major in business administration. But by chance, I am studying business
administration at university now and I worked in F&B like my father in the past. During my
work, I have disagreements with the way my manager. Thanks to that, I had the opportunity to
listen to my father's experiences and views on managing and leading a team, instead of just
hearing one side from others as before. I found him to be a person who respects employees,
respects their decisions, and listens to them to solve problems, he also trusts them because they
put in a lot of effort and dedication. However, perhaps the most unfortunate thing is that my
father was not properly trained in management or leadership, so his behavior or communication
with employees caused them to misunderstand and have a reserved mentality. Besides, the lack
of intensive training in specialized knowledge also made it difficult for my father to manage all
business activities. My father's failure and constant efforts to this day have given me a more
multi-dimensional view of leadership that there is no right or wrong like the way people blame
my father in the past, just because their leadership style was suitable for them. There are a lot of
leadership styles, and they are suitable for each kind of working environment, culture, situation,
and other factors like that, when you have enough experience, you will find out which one is
suitable for you and help you to achieve success.
