Now Titanium is an expensive high grade metal used in many industries: For example in
the Marine industry at the bottom of ships (because the sea is salty), in the Airline
industry (the black box, exhaust pipes) but more familiar to us is in the Medical industry
(procedures involving pins, plates)- this is because Titanium is the only metal that is
acceptable to be used in the human body.
So, after extensive research SM developed a patent to put Titanium into cookware,
which goes to show that SM was built to a standard and not a price. SM was designed
to preserve the nutrients in our food, protect the integrity of our food and prevent
contamination of our food.

the way we prepare our food and the second test is to see whether we are unknowingly
contaminating our food using our regular cookware.

NUTRITION
Have you heard the expression "You are what you eat"?
Doctors and Dieticians tell us that what you eat, and how you prepare your food can
affect how we look, how we feel, and how long we live. (Point to flipchart page)
Would you agree with that? These are some of the lifestyle diseases of today; Obesity,
Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Stroke, Cholesterol and Digestive problems. Now
would you also agree that all of these diseases are on the increase in today's society?
All of these problems have one thing in common. What do you think that is? (PAUSE)
They are all diet related! Doctors tell us if you're concerned with any one of these, you
need to be concerned with all of them, because they're all linked to.........(PAUSE).......

Now Saladmaster is not a diet company, we're just going to show you an easy and
quick food preparation method that can help reduce the risk of some of today's lifestyle
diseases. SM is interested in the journey of the food from the kitchen to the dining room
and ultimately on to our plates.
I think most of us understand the importance of nutrition. We are now buying organic
food, low-fat, lite, cholesterol free etc. etc. The problem is that a lot of the food
preparation methods we use can prevent the nutrients from getting into our bodies,
⚫ PEELING Anything that's grown under the ground the vitamins are just under
skin. A lot of the nutrients in vegetables can be found in, or just under the skin and when
we peel them we lose a lot of the goodness. Above the ground e.g. cabbage have
nutrients in the center
⚫ WATER Many vitamins and minerals are water soluble and water leaches them
out the food. That's why the water changes color when you cook veg. e.g. peas (green)
and salt, which is a mineral, dissolves.
⚫ OXIDATION Air & light can strip the goodness from our food. When you bite an
apple and put it on the side, what happens? (Get answer) So if we don't cook in an
airtight container, we can lose even more nutrition. They say if you can smell your food
when it's cooking, you can smell vitamins and minerals leaving your food!!! Today we
will smell our food because we will be frying chicken.
EXCESSIVE HEAT
⚫ Boiling: We put our food in a pan, bring it up to 100 c .If I wanted to sterilize a
baby's bottle I could boil it in water, couldn't I? So what do you think happens when we
boil our veg? (Get answer) and discuss
⚫ Steaming: is better than boiling, but occurs at 100°c plus and it's a wet heat. If you
read the small print on a new steamer, it says we should only steam for a few minutes,
so unless you like your food and vegetables half cooked, we steam and steam until it's
all cooked, soaking the vegetables and if you look at the water in the bottom of the pan
it's green from the broccoli, peas or orange from the carrots.
⚫ Microwaves cook at 100 C or more and a lot of people say the food is different,
Which would you prefer a baked potato done in a microwave, or one baked in a

conventional oven?
Roasting and grilling what temperature would you set the oven to,
150-200°C............ High heat again! What do you think all of this is doing to our food?
