By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils will be able:

ACTIVITIES
1. Review key vocabulary or ideas from the story in Lesson 65 that pupils found
PRE-LESSON challenging using an activity from the pre-lesson task list in Section 3.

2. Ask pupils to remember the names of the characters in the story from Lesson 65.
Then ask them about the theme of the story.(HOTS)
3. Pupils read the story on pages 60-61 again and complete the activity individually. However, play a recording of
the story or read it yourself, rather than have pupils read. Make sure that they sit comfortably, just as they did
when they read the story in the last lesson. (Activity 1)
4. Pupils underline the correct answer. Check answers and refer to the written text in Pupil’s Book, pp.60–61.

LESSON 5. Highlight the use of because which links two ideas in a sentence in the examples in
DEVELOPMENT Activity 2 to give a reason. Elicit the meaning of so and but. Give pupils one or two
examples to demonstrate and contrast the meaning of the words.
6. On the first worksheet, have pupils work in pairs to match the sentence halves on the
worksheet. Then they add a suitable linking word, e.g. [Susi wanted to play inside]
because [it was raining]. / [Grandma invented a cool robot] but [she couldn’t invent a
flying machine.] / [Suddenly, the sun came out] so [Ruby went outside.] (21ST ca)
7. Pupils write their answers in full sentences using conjunctions (check they are punctuated properly), after
discussing with their partner. Monitor and gather common mistakes to use in the postlesson stage. (Activity 3)
8. Use examples of pupils’ mistakes from Step 7 to conduct whole-class error correction
