REFLECTION ON LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND VALUES FORMATION

First of all I thank God our father for this opportunity that he gave me a chance to
undergo this kind of schooling and such a big privileged for me to enhanced my capacity and
credibility to perform my task as a coast guard personnel. In my 12 years in service, I’ve
experienced a lot of situations, problems and different kind of peoples attitude and tribes. I
honestly for myself that in that particular instances we are lack of information in regards to
manage the situations about handling a big responsibility, we learned only in actual duties but
the main point is, how we apply the correct way of teaching, and handling and be more effective
in my sub-ordinates? I personally gave my gratitude and appreciation to my instructors and staff
and for those who made this course possible. I’m PO3 Jerry Pons E Mirabueno 004986 PCG a
member of class 16-2008 and currently assigned as a sub-station commander of CGSS Talusan
under the operational and administrative control of CG Station Zamboanga Sibugay . In my
tenure of duty as a sub-station commander, is not an easy task that my Commanding officer that
he gave, I thank my officers that he trusted me to gave such a big task, because not everybody
have a chance for this kind of opportunity. Handling a situation specially in my area of
responsibilities is a very challenging way part of my career, i need to take risk and be more
competent and be pro-active. I must be a role model to my constituents so that they follow me
and obey whatever task that given us . Being a leader there are times that i’ve doubted myself
or just im afraid to take failures in some decisions that I made. When situations comes ,I
conducted a forum or meetings with my fellow coast guardians to gave some suggestions and
advise to solve or to manage problems in a smooth way, as a leader I listen to them, for me
rank is not a problem or issue, as long as we have good communications and respect from one
of us, respect to each other is the main ingredient for an effective and a good relationship to our
service . Likewise, I ask and pray to God that he will gave me wisdom and guidance to make
such decisions. Its more effective that we work with God in our service its a right thing to do and
apply in our career. Im truly inspired of this subject , is a big help for me, to be more effective
and competent to do my task as a leader or a sub-station commander. I will apply this not only
in my service in PCG but in everyday of my life, personally nowadays in my career there are
some personnel will teach us or educate or have time to discussed and tackled regarding of
values and leadership because in our nature of work everybody is busy in different kind of
tasking and duties. So, it’s a big help for me to be part of this subject and conversation, it help
me to educate myself and control my inner conscience to manage and performed more
effectively. For this matter, experienced in my life teaches me how to be come more competent,
credible and be a responsible person in valuing things in regardless of rank, educational
attainment, life status , religion and tribe. So, we must be kind and passionate to does who need
and shows empathies and be a God-fearing individuals.
