I. Introduction

Florence Nightingale was the founder of the modern nursing and serves the English monarch in the Crimean War

in which she organized care for wounded soldiers at Constantinople. She documented her journey in her writings

which gave nursing a favorable reputation and became a sensation in Victorian culture. In the movie shows how

poorly the wounded soldiers are taken care that was attended by overworked men medical staff. This movie

additionally shows her deep connection with God and became her fortress in her trying times and struggles that

she encounters during her service as a healthcare provider in amidst of brawling social, political and national war.

Other than that, this also gives as a sneak pick unto the lives of men and women during does time and details

how we females are degraded as only housewives and nothing else. Nevertheless the deep message that the

story convey is arrogance and ignorance could cover our judgement that could potentially do a greater good.

II. Analysis and Reaction

The movie titled “ Florence Nightingale” is about a who ask God what is her purpose in life, she knows in herself

that being a plain housewives isn’t for her, then God answer her plea and lead her to her destiny of being a light

in amidst of chaos in the Crimean War, showing that women are also a vital part in nation’s battle against other

countries, but not like you would imagen it to be instead of holding guns and spears Florence and her team are

holding linens and medicines curing the fallen heroes of their kingdom to bounce back into the battle field and

earn their sweet victory. Although this path leads their journey into a rough road full of bumps, holes, and

boulders that slow them down to the point of giving up. As Florence not having a biggest support system, her

family became her number one critic viewing her as a fragile little girl that needs a husband to survive and serve

him lovingly with tea and cookies, in the deeps of her despair a helping hand surge its way to gave Florence a

new hope. She build up a army of healers and move their way to the Constantinople to cure the sick but the

society is so cruel to women and men full of pride and arrogance they were abandoned into the abyss of a small

room constantly hearing the cries and suffering of many soldiers as you were really in the depths of hell patiently

waiting to those men to open up the gates and ask for help and recognize their existence and their capabilities,
and at last their voice has been heard and their duty has been fulfilled the system is changed and many lives has

been saved to the point that the committee took notice as well as the Queen herself.

With this notoriety Florence Nightingale became a hero, nobles, poems, and news circulate praising her as well as

criticizing her but one realization and discover took Florence into her knees, the lack of sanitation and poor

sewage system many infections have spread in the hospital and many lives could have been save if weren’t for

those factors just like what happened into the bed of death where soldiers die within days of resting on that bed.

Feeling very guilty for those lives of her children that have been lose she feel into depression and questions Gods

plan for her, she fell left out and misguided with her decisions and when anxiety took over her body her health

decline and fell sick for, she couldn’t eat that her body suffers the consequences of her action. With this

disturbing news her father got so worried that he rushes unto the hospital they have a very serious conversation

that woke her up from great sadness and from that day one Florence Nightingale continue her journey in serving

many hospitals and develop many regulations that change the nursing institute forever.

All throughout the movie the sceneries are very rustic and retro with added softness to its era in 1840’s England

nevertheless the most highlighted and prominent color is black, the footage is well angle to the person that

properly captures the characters emotions and expressions just like how clear and adequate the audio recording

is. Although there are times that the scene played so fast that I cannot comprehend what just happened that

makes me rewatched that scene for better understanding, example to that are the battle scene theatrical mockery

of life of Florence that somethings don’t make no sense but its biggest downfall of this movie is the lack of

dynamic and complexity of the other characters that doesn’t get much level of acting like the main character as if

they were like poppets that was held by a string that they could do better next time, all does aside the whole

movie is very good and full of inspiring lines and scenes that tickles viewers attention until the second of the

movie, I just hope that if directors would remake this movie they will dive more into the lives of other characters

that influence Florence Nightingale and what would be their point of view in this matter and how they project her

in different light.

Watching this movie really ignites fire in my heart, I feel so connected to Florence Nightingale to all the struggles

that she encounters and the pressures she is in. I live in a small island in the borders of estancia were having a

dream of becoming a doctor let alone a nurse is a very big ambition to have, they say I will fail this profession
that I am not smart enough, expensive enough to succeed that I should think of other courses that I can

accommodate my capacity like business or education or tourism for it has much easier subjects than nursing or if

not, just go and marry someone rich so you don’t have to worry anything other than house chores and rising your

children, although this is not my calling just like Florence I know God has a very perfect plan for me that is

greater than all of this and that’s helping other people and learning their stories, hear their complains and walk

them out of their struggles both mentally and physically. I know dreaming alone wont make any progress in my

ambitions and their will be many unexpected problems and trials that I’ll be facing but I know God together with

my support system I will surge through this and someday like how Florence Nightingale became a light to

everyone and warm their hearts with the love of the Lord.
