“Nakikinig ka ba sa Akin”

My family greatly influenced who I am today. In actuality, I am who I am today as a result of

their ceaseless yet edifying sermons, their perseverance in educating me, and their
commitment to hone me and prepare me for any adversity that life may throw my way. They
are the source of my happiness, strength, and motivation to continue moving forward in life,
regardless of how I stumble and fall while pursuing my journey and my dreams. When I was
younger, I recall being annoyed by their sermons. It hurts my ears to hear those never-ending
pieces of advice that I didn't even realize I needed. Initially, I believed it to be pointless and a
form of ridicule. I've realized, however, that it's crucial to listen while growing up because it's so
difficult. I miss my parents' sermons because now I must fight for my life on my own. Yes, they
are the source of my inspiration, and they are always there to support me, but as I've gotten
older, I've had to take responsibility and assign it to myself. I should be able to determine what
is good for me and what is not; I must be able to make such decisions on my own.

The song Nakikinig ka ba sa Akin by Ben and Ben made me realize the importance of LISTENING.
It is something that cannot be undone once it has been completed. Now I regret the times I
didn't listen to my parents, but I am most appreciative that they listen to me instead today—to
my never-ending rants about my studies when I complain about how difficult life is, when I tell
stories about my day, and when I break down in tears when I am hurt and exhausted. Indeed,
many individuals will leave our lives, but family will always remain and be willing to listen.

I am aware that not everyone has a family that can listen and comprehend. But as for me, I
wanted to proclaim with pride that I am fortunate to have a family that, through thick and thin,
has stayed by my side and listened to my rants whenever I needed them the most.
"To listen is to place oneself in the shoes of another's perspective."

–yours truly.
