LAC Reflection Notes

On Fundamentals of Folkdance
Last October 28, 2022, the Talaba Elementary School conducted LAC session to discussed about
Fundamentals of Folkdance. We were facilitated by our MAPEH Coordinator – Teacher Alera Fe G.
Celetaria, who elaborately explained the topic.

It is important that we should learn the fundamental positions of the arms and feet in Folkdance
because Dancing folkdance is not a joke you have to learn how to control your moves and follow its exact
timing and rhythm and also to avoid yourself from getting hurt and injured. It is important to study the 5
fundamental steps so as the feet positions in folkdance one- because it is an important technique in
dancing. and it provides improvement in your performance.

 A folk dance is a dance created by people to represent the life of the people of a specific country or region.
Folk dances are not often associated with ethnic dances. Ritual dances or dances of ritual origin, for
example, are not called folk dances. Because of their function, ritual dances are often referred to as
"religious dances." When it is necessary to highlight the cultural origins of the dance, the words "ethnic" and
"traditional" are used.

 The five fundamental positions of the arms and feet are taught in dance. The mastering of these positions
is essential for a child's continued success of dance. This are the most fundamental and important strong
holds in dance.

1. The first position consists of feet together and toes apart.

2. The second position involves separating the toes and turning out the foot. The third position, which is less
usual, is where one heel is placed halfway down the other foot.
3. The fourth position is an extended third.
4. Fifth position is achieved when one foot entirely crosses in front of the other.

 These fundamental moves, fundamental movements, fundamental rhythms, or simply "basics" in dance
describe the character of a particular dance. It establishes the beat of the dance. It is the default move to
which a dancer returns when no other steps are performed. To enjoy certain dances socially, it is
appropriate to know the simple steps performed in various hand holds and dance positions.

 It is important to practice the fundamental or basic positions of all arms and feet in dance in order to do well
in all dancing practices. And apply the learnings I got to my learners.
