1. My name is Dayana Rivera Beltran and I’m 19 years old, I’m from Colombia and
currently I live in London have been learning to speak English and the culture of
London.

2. My name is Diana Milena Tafur Vasquez. and I am Thirty-three years old. I am from Quito,

Ecuador and I have been arriving and learning English in New York city, in the New York

State.

3. My name is Maria Valentina Forero Palma, I am 19 years old. I’m from USA, I live in

Inglaterra I am currently learning pure english in this beautiful country. I also want to focus

on getting to know a litte more about the people and of course their culture and traditions.

4. My name is Yonny Alejandro Murillo. I am 27 years old; I am from Colombia and 3 years

ago I came to Canada. I am currently concentrating in the city of Toronto with my family.

5. My name is Francisco Alexander Corral Aranzalez, I am 21 years old. I am from

Colombia, I live in Mexico and I am currently learning pure English in this beautiful

country. I also want to know about his culture and traditions.

B. Please, write three touristic places from your hometown and three form
the current city with a little description and some comparison between
them.

1. Touristic place in of Colombia: Guatape is a small municipality in eastern

Antioquia, 2 hours from the city of Medellin. One of most colorful cities in Colombia,
and where you can go up to the Piedra del peñol, the day we went, my dad got excited
about eating a lot since it hurts him to eat a lot of color in food.

Santa Marta is one of the tourist places in Colombia that serve as a starting point to visit the
best natural and cultural attractions on the Caribbean coast. The people are very friendly the
few people who speak were very kind to us each beach we went to was very differen because
of the sand and the sea is very salty but ir is nice to go for a walk there too.

Coffee Park is a place marvelous to go has many thigs to do like game machines you can
also go shopping there are several things to do like cracker is scary but it is like most game
and for young children there is also only for them.

Touristic place in of London: warner bros. Studio tour London – the making of Harry
Potter, step into the wizarding world of Harry Potter and take in the original sets, props and
constumes stroll down diagon alley to view storefronts like ollivanders wand shop and
Gringotts bank take photos of the famous platform and see the billowing steam from the
original hogwaarts express explore Dumbledore’s office and discover real hidden treasures.
Learn how J.K. Rowling were brought to the big screen with special effects, animatronics and
life-size models. It’s a marvelous place to know the Harry Potter studio is the best it is one of
favorite movies I loved going to see the studio.
Buckingham palace one of the modalities allows you to visit the state rooms and the other
also includes the garages and the queen’s gallery. It’s the residence of the royal family,

currently queen Elizabeth II lives, it’s a beautiful place to go since more than one woman
dream of being a princess or queen, and one learns many things from the royal family.

Hyde Park is very big for one to go to relax, you can ride the game machines or go to the snake lake,
you can also go to royal garden, it’s a very beautiful marvelous park, I have never seen a park this
beautiful in my life.

2. Three of the tourist sites of Quito Ecuador are: the historic center of Quito, It is
located in the south center of the city of Quito, in Ecuador, it is considered the best
preserved historical complex and one of the most important in Latin America.
the church of San Francisco, It is a Catholic basilica that stands in the middle of the
historic center of Quito, in front of the square of the same name. The structure is the
largest architectural ensemble within the historical centers of all America, and for that
reason it is known as "the New World Dump."

The San Francisco Museum houses in its rooms numerous and rich masterpieces of
Quito art, as well as interesting examples of colonial furniture and objects. Its patio is
also highly admired, especially for the two carved stone crosses in high relief that are
in it.,
the basilica church of the national vote, Neo-Gothic style religious building in the
historic center of the city of Quito. Due to its size and style, it is considered the largest
neo-Gothic temple in America. It is located in the area known as Santa Prisca, on
Carchi and Venezuela streets, next to the Oblate Fathers' convent.
Three tourist spots in New York are:
Central Park, It is the largest urban park in New York and one of the largest in the
world. It measures more than 4 kilometers long and 800 meters wide. In the 340
hectares that Central Park occupies you can find meadows, artificial lakes, waterfalls
and areas that look like a real forest.
Brooklyn Bridge, It is a historical symbol of New York and a fundamental part of the
city, as it crosses the East River connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn. Envisioned in
the movies countless times, the Brooklyn Bridge has become one of the most famous
bridges in the world.

Broadway. is the set of theatrical shows presented in each of the 40 major professional
theaters that comprise it, with more than 500 locations, located in the Broadway
Avenue theater district and at Lincoln Center in Manhattan, New York, United States.

3. united stastes has very beautiful places, such as Disney, it is a very beautiful place to

share with family and fiends, especially children always want to go to that place to

enjoy themselves, there are also very beautiful places where you can share with your

parthner, my favorite place is LOS ANGELES there i can go to the art museum which

is a wonderful place.

4. Three of the tourist places in my native Colombia are: 1 the walled city of Cartagena,
2 Caño Crystals in La Macarena, 3 La Piedra del Peñol, located in Guatape Antioquia
and in my current city they are: 1 the Toronto Zoo, 2 Ripley's Aquarium and 3 CN
Tower.

kind, the few people who spoke were very kind to us.

c. Give some information about the cultural topics: Gastronomy one example,
traditions or festivities name one or two and idiomatic expressions
minimum three.

1. Notting Hill Carnival last week of August, Thursday to Monday in Notting Hill it’s the
most important public festival in London and the most important folk festival in
Europe. With Caribbean roots, it was held for the first time in 1964, as a tribute to the
first carnival held in Trinidad in 1833, when slavery was ended. During the 1950,
many Caribbeans emigrated to the UK. At first, racial tensions were generated, until
the idea of having a party that would unite them all was had. This is how this famous
carnival was born. For the same reason, it’s characterized by its multiculturalism:
painting its face in white or wearing masks of that color. Those masks were in the
Caribbean a symbol of the abolition of slavery and equality between different peoples.
Which makes the event not only a combination of music, dances, food, costume balls,
artistic expressions of all kinds, and a lot of pride in having achieved a fruitful union.

2. In the city of Quito, the typical food is the ceviche, the most representative festivals of
Quito Ecuador are the Flowers and Fruits festivities, the Guaranda Carnival, the yucca
beer in Sarayaku, La Chonta de la Amazonia, the Inti Raymi, the Processional Walk of
the Chagra, the Mama Negra, the Yamor and the coastal Montubio Rodeo. Its
idiomatic expression as in all countries, Quito Ecuador has characteristic phrases with
different meanings, depending on the region or culture. "I blow it off to the cove
before my corduroy falls off", is a set of terms that translate as: "I quickly retire to my
house before my friend comes" and here in the New York City it is the hot dog, The
New Year's Eve party in New York has become one of the most famous events in the
city and with the greatest impact worldwide, Commemoration September 11, New
York Marathon, Independence Day, idiomatic expressions are the Store. In New York,
wineries are not wine warehouses: they are mini-supermarkets that you will find every
few steps and that sell a little of everything, from flowers to chocolate bars.

3. In the United States the typical food is the hamburger, in LOS ANGELES they prepare
delicious and extra-large hamburgers another of the typical foods is the hot dog, these
are delicious because their ingredients have an exquisite flavor and you can delight the
palate at any time of day.

4. In my homeland Colombia, gastronomy and culture is very abundant and in it we find

infinities of dishes and customs, which will make you fall in love, the dishes that most
represent Colombians are: the paisa tray of the Antioquia region, the ajiaco
Santafereño and tamales from Tolima. Their customs derive much from their joy, they
are one of the countries with the most annual festivities, thus highlighting the
enthusiasm of the Colombian to celebrate.
In Toronto, customs are a bit calmer and its celebrations are more reserved, in its
gastronomy we find dishes such as tourtière, cipaille and smoked meat.

5. In Mexico, gastronomy and culture is very abundant and in it we find an infinity of

dishes and customs, which always motivate you to repeat that experience, the dishes

that most represent Mexico are: the tacos El Pozole, Cochinita Pibil and Chiles. Their

customs derive a lot of ancient culture that until now are still alive.

D. As a group, write about the experience expectations and the reason why you
decided to live this experience. (Minimum 10 lines)

We decided to participate in this summer camp because we want to improve our level
of foreign language, achieve a greater general culture by knowing, sharing our exciting
experiences of the different countries that we are and in an exciting way when traveling to
New York. At the end of this camp we hope to have a large number of practices that allow
us to better relate to others and to each other, becoming citizens of the world.
We have high expectations for this summer camp and we are very optimistic about our
performance on the field. We really hope that this experience allows us to grow personally
and professionally.
