    This journal article examines whether book giveaway programs that provide families with free books promote literacy in the home and children's literacy skills. The researchers analyzed prior studies on book giveaway programs and their impact on the home literacy environment and children's literacy behaviors and abilities. They found some evidence that such programs can positively influence the home literacy environment and children's interest in reading but the effects on literacy skills were mixed depending on the program design and implementation.
