I. ACTIVITY TITLE : Zero Open Defecation Program Orientation and

Awarding of Barangays having at least 70% of actual number of households with
complete basic Sanitation facility.

II. ACTIVITY BACKGROUND and OBJECTIVES:

In 2019, DOH issued the guidelines on implementing the Philippine

Approach to Sustainable Sanitation (PhATSS). It aims to achieve Zero Open
Defecation status and attain universal access to safe and adequate sanitary
facilities by the year 2028 and a safely managed sanitation service by 2030 in
line with the sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The program’s main objective is to motivate Casiguranins to abandon open

defecation practice and adopt improved sanitation practices through community-wide
initiatives and to achieve Zero Open Defecation status (Municipal-wide).
