I. RATIONALE

Vegetables are increasingly recognized as essential for food and nutrition

security. Vegetables are mankind's most affordable source of vitamins and minerals
needed for good health.

Over the years there has been growing interest to strengthen and intensify local
food production specifically at the barangay level in order to mitigate the adverse effect
of food scarcity especially vegetables and address the high price of vegetables in the
market which was experienced especially during the Pandemic situation.

The Department of Agriculture and LGU Matanao has made various interventions
to empower its constituency by enticing them to produce their own food by means of
vegetable production in schools and homes through Gulayan sa Paaralan Program
(GPP) and Gulayan sa Barangay (GSB) that was formally implemented last 2010 in
order to alleviate food shortage, malnutrition and poverty.

With the objective of reviving the Gulayan sa Barangay and the home gardens
or Gulayan sa Balay as a strategy to enhance household food security and nutrition, the
Barangay Local Government of Unit of Buas (BLGU-Buas) has allotted PhP 60,000.00
for the procurement and distribution of assorted vegetable seedlings to its constituents
for the year 2022. Thus, this proposal.
II. OBJECTIVES

In general, the BLGU-Buas aims to revive and establish the Gulayan sa Barangay and
the home gardens (Gulayan sa Balay) to achieve food security and sustainability
amongst its less privileged constituents living in our barangay.

Specifically, it aims to:

1. Help address children’s malnutrition and hunger.

2. Helps alleviate poverty, create livelihood opportunities and increase
household income.

III. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Gulayan sa Barangay will be established at the BLGU-Buas area while the
Gulayan sa Balay shall be at the household level. Of Brgy. Buas, Matanao, Davao del
Sur.

VII. SUSTAINABILITY

The proponent shall guarantee the project’s sustainability by creating a seed

bank at the Gulayan sa Barangay and assigning competent personnel to monitor the
project for this goal to be achieved. Likewise, the Monthly production report shall be
submitted to the Chairman-Committee on Agriculture.
