ABSTRACT

The present study sought to revisit the eyewitnesses' accounts of the martial rule

during the Marcos Regime in Taft, Eastern Samar. This work tried to explain the participants'

opinions about their experiences during martial law, how they overcame the traumas brought by

the said regime, and what happened after the abuses have been committed during the

dictatorship of the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. The analysis was carried out using the

data collected through an in-depth interview with the witnesses to Marcos's Rule. Data were

recorded and analyzed using thematic analysis. The study revealed that the witnesses

experienced different abuses from the military during Martial Rule and were mostly accused of

being members of the New People's Army (NPA's). The study only focused on the experiences

of the eyewitnesses to point out what happened during martial law under the Marcos Regime.

Hence, other information beyond the witnesses' experiences is no longer included. Through this

study, the researchers can contribute to determining the truth behind the martial law period and

give guidance to other researchers who will do the same study.
