BERHAN DOCUMENTARY
A. Our making strategy

Our documentary style is expository, a production in which we will be looking for new stories
with unique perspectives. We’re looking for stories from a sense of uniqueness by using a
unique structure or approach. The BERHAN story will be told from an angle of passion and
truth, even if the truth is uncomfortable for the audience to hear. We believe a good
documentary has a story that should be told and must be heard, in a way it will inspire viewers
for a positive change.

The story will flow through an attractive narration supported with carefully interviewed story
tellers, and professionals in the filed who will create an awareness on the topic under
discussion. This approach has been proven to be effective in the production of effective IEC
materials.

B. Content

Simple explanation of SRH gaps, and harmful traditional practices in Este and Fogera districts of
South Gondar Zone, and their solutions will be presented in three content blocks, as illustrated
below. Proportion might be subjected to revision based on discussion with Care Ethiopia.

All the script, narration and interview questions will be prepared based on the corresponding
research outcome/finding.

1) In this Block the content will discuss issues of SRH and harmful traditional practices. The
rationale behind Care Ethiopia’s project will be discussed here. SRH Challenges faced by girls,
women, boys and men will also be covered here. Research results and other supporting
documents will be used. More over the problems will be expressed by;

 Family members
 Boys & girls, as well as men and women
 Professionals
 Wereda health and social affairs officials.

 This will cover 25 the main content.

2. Here, interventions being undertaken by Care Ethiopia to address the challenges will be
discussed. Specific interventions, and how they will be accessed by the target group shall
be covered. Care Ethiopia’s solutions and opportunities provided for the community
will be clearly stated here. The following will speak here;
 Care Ethiopia project managers.
 Target audience members.
 Elderlies and/or popular locals.

 This will cover 35 of the main content.

3. Here we shall cover the positive outcomes of the project that has been achieved so far.The
possible impact in the lives of people and the over all community will be discussed.
The BERHAN(light) will be symbolized and presented in an inspiring manner.
The following will be involved in this block of content,
 SRH professionals
 Inspired members of the target audience.
 Actual beneficiaries whose life has been changed by the project.
 Dreams come true.

 This will cover 40 of the main content.

E. Technical Highlights
- Video shots of interviewees shall be taken with two Camera and angles in a wide close-up
and close-up.
- Additional footages, graphics or illustrations will be used to give the message a power.
- The local set up and environs of the main story tellers will be recorded with a drone camera.

N.B. We need Care Ethiopia’s assistance in getting the permission to filming, and the use of drone
camera.
