MANAGEMENT STUDENTS IN SPECIALIZED SUBJECTS

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

After high school students completed grade 10, the students have to take

the new path which is the senior high school. Accountancy, Business and

Management (ABM) is one of the strands in Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High

School Stand-Alone Senior High School (DPLMHS-SHS). ABM Strand are those

interested in pursuing college or university education in fields of Accountancy,

Business Management, Business Administration, Office Management,

Economics, Entrepreneurship and other business-related course.

According to K-12 curriculum guide ABM strand has 8 specialized subjects

namely; Fundamentals of Accountancy, Business and Management 1,

Organization and Management, Business Mathematics, Principles of Marketing,

Fundamentals of Accountancy, Business and Management 2, Business Finance,

Applied Economics and Business Ethics.

Different subjects that will help and enhances students to be a successful

professional if they are already on the actual practice of accounting. In this time

of senior high school life wherein many of students aspires and hopes to be a

successful professional someday, learning is the best way to achieve their

dreams. Regarding this, the researchers will attempt to find out the learning

experiences of grade 12 students of Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School.


CHAPTER II

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

The paper is a qualitative type of research employing phenomenological

research. Phenomenological research is used to determine and describe what an

experience means for those who have lived it (Cresswell, 1998). This study aims

to explore the learning experiences of Accountancy, Business and Management

students in their specialized subject It provides insight on how Accountancy,

Business and Management (ABM) students learn in their specialized subject and

the factors affect to it.

Locale of the Study

The study will be conducted at Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School

Stand-Alone Senior High School, located at Governor Ramos Avenue, Sta.

Maria, Zamboanga City, Philippines.

Participants of the Study

The participants of the study are the Grade 12 students of Don Pablo

Lorenzo Memorial High School Stand-Alone Senior High School who are taking

up the Accountancy, Business and Management strand in the School Year 2022-

2023.
CHAPTER III

PARTICIPANTS AND THEIR STORIES

Mr. Sinchan

Mr. Sinchan is a Grade 12 student of Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High

School Stand-Alone Senior High School taking up Accountancy, Business and

Management (ABM). According to him, he learned how to journalize and balance

in their specialized subject. However, he stated that as an ABM student they

need time management in Fundamentals of Accountancy, Business and

Managament especially in Business Finance subject because they found it hard

and difficult as they are dealing with millions of numbers. Aside from that, he

enjoys and was happy attending those specialized subjects.

Ms. Accountant

Ms. Accountant is a Grade 12 student of Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial

High School Stand-Alone Senior High School taking up Accountancy, Business

and Management (ABM). Ms. Accountant found their specialized subjects

challenging and put a lot of pressure to her but at the same time enjoyable and

she stated that motivation is the key. As the researchers asked the question

about “What have you learned from your specialized subject?” she replied

“Marami, like balance, balance sheet and then how to manage money, mga
ganon.” She learned a lot of things in their specialized subject and it was a great

help to her as she was planning to take an Accountancy course in the future.

CHAPTER IV

FINDINGS

The purpose of this study was to document the learning experiences of the

Grade 12 Accountancy, Business and Management students in their specialized

subjects. As a phenomenological study the goal was to describe the lived

experiences of the students-participants enrolled at Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial

High School Stand-Alone Senior High School and to identify the challenges they

have encountered. A non-probability sampling, particularly simple random

sampling discussion was used in determining the participants who showed

willingness to participate in this which eventually resulted in a research

population of participants.

General themes on the learning experiences of the Grade 12 Accountancy,

Business and Management students in specialized subjects.

Participants interview were framed around the guiding questions, “What

have you learned from your specialized subjects?”, “Do you enjoy attending

those specialized subjects classes? Why or Why not?”, “Being an ABM student

how can you improve your learnings in your specialized subjects?”, “What are the

challenges that you encountered in your specialized subjects?”, “How did you
overcome those challenges?”, “How do the learning experiences prepare for your

future career?”

CHAPTER V

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter represents the conclusion and recommendations based on

the discussion and participants’ stories.

Conclusions

Based on the research findings, the learning experiences of the Grade 12

Accountancy, Business and Management students of Don Pablo Lorenzo

Memorial High School Stand-Alone Senior High School are similar as they

learned how to journalize, balance and learned things about businesses. The

common challenges that they have encountered in their specialized subjects is

balancing and analyzing, some of them is challenged by being late in the class

and by being a slow learner. Their coping strategies to overcome those

challenges that they have encountered are they do time management, they

discipline themselves, they listen to their teacher carefully, they study and review

more than usual, they think that they can do it, and they give patience on

understanding the lessons. The learnings of Grade 12 ABM students in their

specialized subjects can be challenging and frustrating. However, with the right

support and strategies, these struggles can be addressed and overcome. To

address these challenges and improve the learning experience for struggling
students, various interventions and strategies can be implement by individualized

support. Providing personalized attention and support can help struggling

students address their specific needs.
