Supplementation Program

Rationale

The implementation of the Revised Policy on Micronutrient Supplementation (MS) is

very crucial as we move into the final year of meeting our commitment to the
Millennium Development Goals (MDG) of improved maternal, newborn, child health and
nutrition status by 2016.

Critical to the revised policy on MS is the new MS Manual of Operation which will serve
as a guide for local health implementers as we accelerate our efforts in providing good
quality micronutrient supplementation service. Health service providers need to be
updated on the revised policy, hence the need to conduct training for service providers.

Objectives

After the training, the participants will be able to

1. Explain the following

a. The Micronutrient Supplementation Program (MSP)

b. Key provision of the MSP Guidelines (AO 2010-0010)

2. Discuss the following:

a. Status of Micronutrient Supplementation

b. Effects of common deficiencies on vulnerable population

c. Basic information, role and function of micronutrients

d. Ways of improving MS Program

3. Demonstrate skills in managing micronutrient deficiencies

4. Demonstrate skills in implementing micronutrient supplementation program
