MAIN FITTINGS - INSPECTION/CHECK/CLEANING/PAINTING

i - General
This sheet applies to most of the fittings located within non-pressmired sections. These are :
- Fittings mentioned in Chap. 53-40-o (Inspection/Check)
- Both fin attach fittings (on fin side)
- Main landing gear bracing cylinder attach fittings.
- All airbrake and control surface hing fittings and equipment and lever support fittings.
Such fittings should be inspected for evidence of corrosion after being thoroughly cleaned by means of
type F petroleum spirit.
Corrosion removal should be performed in accordance with the instructions contained in Chap. 51-30 of
present manual and paint renewal in accordance with the instructions contained in Structural Repair
Manual, Chap. 51-20-4. The following operations apply more especially to the fin front spar fitting and
to the fuselage stub rear fitting. These fittings, which are located within non-pressurized sections, are
provided with recesses where condensate may accumulate and may cause corrosion to take place. The
operation will therefore mainly bear on that point and the inspection method will differ, depending on
whether the aircraft is changed or not per S, B. No. 446.

2 - Equipment and materials

- Clean and lintless rags

- Petroleum spirit type F
- Paint ( as per Structural Repair Manual, Chap. 51-20-4)
- Rubber sealant PR. 1422 B2.

3 - Procedure
A - Aircraft not changed per S.B. No, 446 - Incorporate S.B. No. 446, proceeding as follows :
(1) Fi P front spar fitting
(a) Remove doom 209 and 301 (see Chap. i2-00-10)
(Removal of rudder control rod is not required).
(b) Drill a 5 mm dia. drain hole in the fin attach fitting, as illustrated on Fig. 601. Polish the
bore and chamfer the hole inlet.
(c) Protect the drain hole bore through painting (wash primer + primer + one top coat )
(see Structural Repair Manual, Chap. 51-20-4).
(d) Protect the side recesses

- Dry recess bottoms (if required) and clean with type F petroleum spirit,
- If possible, make fcur packing blocks out of KLEGECELL. foam material (same shape as shown
on Fig. 601).
- Fill the side recesses with rubber sealant PR 1422 B2 (apply sealant horizontally up to the fit-
ting flanges, being careful not to trap air bubbles around the packing blocks).
In the case where it is not possible to make packing blocks, fill the recesses only with rubber
sealant PR 1422 B2.
(2) Fuselage stub rear fitting
(a) Remove the rudder (see Chap. 55-40-o).
(b) Drill a 5 mm dia. drain hole in the stub rear fitting, as illustrated on Fig. 602. Polish the bore
and chamfer both ends.
(c) Protect the drain hole through painting (wash primer + primer + one top coat) (see Structural
Repair Manual, Chap. 51-20-4).
