ISTE Technology Standard Addressed: What would you like students to know and
be able to do by the end of this lesson:

such as an illustration.

teacher's direction and expectations.
X Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for

learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.
X Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
When reading the book, I can ask open-ended questions such as, “When do you usually see
the moon in the sky?” When we go outside, I can let students lead the conversation and talk
with each other about the story and what they see in the sky now. Once they have finished
their illustrations, I will have two or three students at a time come to the computer and I will
show them how I upload pictures on the PowerPoint. Doing this with a small number of
children will allow everyone to see how it works. The other students look at picture books or
do another activity so they are still engaged in the topic and not just waiting for their turn.
The Ebook format supports the representation principle since it allows a larger visualization
for the students (The words and pictures will be bigger and easier to see on the screen). With
PowerPoint, I can also add subtitles in another language if I have an English Language
Learner. This can also help with learning to read, as kindergarten students start recognizing
more words and making connections to the pictures. In addition, between reading, going
outside and drawing, there is something to engage children of several different interests.
