PROCEDURES

A. Reviewing previous ELICIT:

lesson or presenting Activity 1: Unscramble ME!
the new lesson The teacher will ask the students to unscramble the letters to form a correct word. Hint of the answers will be
given to the students.
1. AALINM
Hint: a living organism that feeds on organic matter
2. ODOF
Hint: any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink or that plants absorb in order to maintain life and
growth.
3. ALNPT
Hint: usually has a stem, leaves, roots, and flowers, and produces seeds
4. LLCE
Hint: the smallest unit that can live on its own and that makes up all living organisms and the tissues of the body.
5. AWLL
Hint: something that acts as a barrier or defense.
6. CASIB
Hint: forming an essential foundation or starting point
7. SELOLRENAG
SESSION 1

Hint: biological structure that performs a distinctive function inside a cell

ANSWER: ANIMAL, CELL, FOOD, PLANT, WALL, BASIC, ORGANELLE

B. Establishing a Human, plants, and animals are composed of trillion of cells, they have different functions necessary for survival.
To function properly, cells have different parts with different functions working together to growth and
purpose for the lesson
development of all living things.
ENGAGE:
Activity 2: Tell me who I am

The teacher will show a picture of animal and plant cell with unlabeled parts and will ask the students to identify
the different parts of the cells.

C. Presenting examples/
instances of the new
lesson

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

After the activity, the teacher will ask the following questions:

Based on our previous discussion, cell is the basic structure and function of life,

1. Do you think these organisms have similar structure of cells? Why or why not?
2. What is your basis why plant and animal have similar or dissimilar cell structure?

EXPLORE
Activity 3: Share Similarities, Celebrate Differences!
Discussing new concepts
and practicing new skills

Discussing new concepts and

practicing new skills #2

 The class will be divided into four (4) groups.

 The teacher will display labeled images of plant and animal cells and tell the students to explore the
cell's parts.
 The teacher will provide a Venn diagram and the names of each part on cut-out sheets for each group.
 Students will attempt to classify the components present only in animal cells, plant cells, and both.
 After identifying the words, students will paste them into the Venn diagram given. Students will be
given five minutes to complete the exercise.
 After completing the diagram, one representative will discuss their results. A rubric will be used to
assess students' performance and output.

Rubric for Group Task (Venn Diagram and Oral Presentation):

Developing mastery EXPLAIN:
(Leads to Formative  The group representative will present and explain their group work
Assessment)  The teacher will assess each output and will support the answer through further explanation

Cells are considered as the basic structural and functional unit of life since all organisms are made up of cells and
all the functions that take place inside the body of the living organisms are performed by cells. Through the
advancement in Science and the invention of the Microscope, the details about cells are being studied intensively.

Organelles
The tiny organs of the cell and has one or more specific jobs to perform.

Difference between Animal Cell and Plant Cell in terms of:

Presence of Organelles found

Organelles found only in Organelles found only in Organelles found in both
Animal Cell Plant Cell Plant and Animal Cell
Centrioles Chloroplasts Endoplasmic Reticulum
Lysosome Vacuoles Golgi Bodies
Cell Wall Mitochondria

Plasma Membrane

Ribosomes

Vesicles

Peroxisomes

Nucleus and Nucleolus

Cytoskeleton

Shape
A plant cell has a square, rectangular or fixed shape while the animal cells have an irregular or round shape.

Size
The plant cell can also be larger than the animal cell. The normal range of the animal cell varies from about 10
– 30 micrometres and that of plant cell range between 10 – 100 micrometres.
SESSION 1

Color
Plant cells have chloroplasts for the utilization of sunlight and this is what also gives plant cells their green color.
It is with the help of chloroplasts that contain chlorophyll, the plant cells perform the function of photosynthesis
which is a process absent in animal cells.
ELABORATE:
Finding practical Question:
applications of concepts  Just like the parts of a cell, do you think humans have also different roles in life? Why or why not?
and skills in daily living  What do you think will happen if the parts of cells do not follow their roles?
 What do you think will happen if humans do not have roles to act in life?

SUMMARY:

 Organelles Found Only in Plant Cells are Chloroplasts, Vacuoles, and Cell Wall
 Organelles Found Only in an Animal Cells are Centrioles and Lysosome
Making generalizations  Organelles Found in Both Animal and Plant Cell are:
