1) What do you think is the Golden Apple that needed to be achieved in our country

today? Why?

I think that one of the aspects of the “Golden Apple” that we need to achieve in our
country with respect to our current situation is that we need to have a sustainable economy
and education. I think these are the most fundamental aspects when it comes to building a
“Golden Apple” nation. By having good education, people are more knowledgeable about
how the world around them works. And by having a sustainable economy, more people
could afford basic needs without having to worry about economical changes such as price
inflations and economical failures.

2) In our context of becoming a Filipino, what principles are still valuable today in our
pursuit of national development that has been propagated during the Rizal era?

Promotion of national consciousness and the importance of education. These two

principles are what I think are the most valuable for the current situation of our country.
According to recent news, it looks like other countries may have been wanting to colonize
our own country’s territory and economy. Being aware of these principles will help us to act
accordingly against these aggressions and prevent our country from being colonized again
like what the Spanish did to our country back in Rizal’s time.

3) What are some of the struggles we encounter in our attempt of realizing nationalism
and patriotism?

Patriotism and nationalism are very similar thus many people have been struggling to
differentiate the two. both words involve some form of pride in one’s country, but there is an
incredibly important distinction to be made between the two. The word patriotism is a noun
that means “devoted love, support, and defense of one’s country; national loyalty.” The term
often brings to mind people directly involved with the defense of a nation, namely military
service members as well as state and local government representatives. In most contexts
today, nationalism is “the policy or doctrine of asserting the interests of one’s own nation
viewed as separate from the interests of other nations or the common interests of all
nations.” In short, nationalism is a kind of excessive, aggressive patriotism.
4) Give three (3) manifestations of Nationalism in our country. Explain each

 National Consciousness – Came from the Creoles, who now regard themselves as
“Filipino”. Economy, education and secularization of parishes contributed to the birth of
Filipino Nationalism. The first manifestation of Philippine nationalism followed in the
decades of the 1880s and the 1890s, with a reform or propaganda movement,
conducted both in Spain and in the Philippines, for the purpose of “propagandizing”
Philippine conditions in the hopes that desired changes in the social, political and
economic life of the Filipinos would come about through peaceful means.

 Standing proud for every Filipinos achievement - Filipinos are globally competitive in
many aspects. They are proud to be a Filipino and for the honors they bring to our
country. They unite every Filipino for their achievements. We can be proud of Filipinos
like Manny Pacquiao, the Gilas Pilipinas Basketball Team, and many more.

 Economic Nationalism - Nationalism can also be found in the economy. Economic

nationalism is when you favor your goods and services over other countries. One
example is that people are made to believe that local products are better than imported
products.
