SOP for Operation & Calibration Procedure of BOD Incubator

Purpose: This SOP outlines the procedure for the proper operation and calibration of the BOD
(Biochemical Oxygen Demand) Incubator.

Scope: This procedure applies to all personnel responsible for operating and calibrating the BOD
Incubator in the laboratory.

Equipment and Materials:

BOD Incubator

Calibration standards (if applicable)

Sample containers (BOD bottles)

Temperature probe (if applicable)

Safety goggles and gloves

Procedure:

Operation:

Ensure that the BOD Incubator is clean and free from any contamination.

Power on the incubator and set it to the desired temperature and humidity, if applicable.

Place the samples (BOD bottles) inside the incubator.

Monitor and maintain the incubation conditions as per the test method.

Record temperature and humidity readings regularly.

Calibration (if applicable):

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for calibration, especially if the incubator has temperature or
humidity control.

Use certified calibration standards.

Adjust the incubator settings as necessary to ensure accurate temperature and humidity control.

Document calibration details, including date, operator, and calibration standards used.

Safety Precautions:
Wear safety goggles and gloves when handling samples or making adjustments.

Be cautious when opening the incubator to prevent temperature fluctuations.

Maintenance: Clean the BOD Incubator regularly and perform routine maintenance as per the
manufacturer's instructions.

Record Keeping: Maintain a log of incubator usage, temperature/humidity monitoring, and


calibration activities.
