An Objective Organizational Assessment of Name of Institution

Background: Technological University of the Philippines- Cavite is an umbrella campus of

one of the premiere state universities in the Philippines, TUP. It is located in the now City of
Dasmarinas in the province of Cavite. The 5-hectare lot was a donation of the Benitez Clan.
Presently, the campus boasts of its resent infrastructure development ensuring to give
student services they needed. TUP-Cavite is know for its technology, education and
engineering courses, operating for its two thousand students.

Management Competency Assessment:

A. Planning (How activities are carried out and success rate)

A practice in the institution that I belong to is ensuring that we have utilized the budget
by making sure that activities planned the year before are accomplished. During the
planning stage, each sector was asked to present proposed activities and the needed
budget (normally projected amount as endorsed by the budget and accounting sector)
to execute activities. A lot of our activities were pre-determined already since Higher
Education institutions are expected to have conducted such activities like graduation,
recognition, local for a (research and extension, academic, GAD, planning, ADCO,
ISO, Accreditation, COPC-if there is still a need).

The administration is monitoring the accomplished activity every quarter to make sure
that budget is utilized. On cases, where it is not executed, the sector is called out to
ask for reason why it happened and if it is possible for corrective action.

But recently, a couple of our projects were put on hold, pending approval from higher
office. This has domino effect, because it affects execution of project, lowers budget
execution, worst case budget unutilized will be submitted back to the source of fund
because it must follow the deadline.
B. Designing Effective Organizations (such as no duplication or clear responsibility lines reflected in the
organizational structure)

The organization of TUP-Cavite is patterned from the main campus, where we are considered as one of
the colleges. The Campus Director is the top official like the president, and it has 3 assistant directors
(Administration and Finance, Research and Extension, and Academic) that is equivalent to the Vice
Presidents. We have department heads for the three programs like college deans from the main campus,
and service departments for general education subjects.

From my observation, at the present time, we are having a hard time with the duplication of reports being
submitted to different sectors. It would be beneficial if data was collected by one sector only, and from
that databank other sectors can request a copy.

C. Managerial Decision Making (how are decisions communicated, responsiveness of communicating

decisions)

Lately, as observed, a lot of decisions have been made without any consultation or consideration from
those in the field or implementing sectors. Time, effort, and resources were exhausted just to as much
as possible follow orders, but it seems that what we are doing was never enough. Burn out is evident
already.

D. Control Systems in Organizations (how are policies communicated, how are practices corrected into
policies)

In terms of control, I can see that on the larger scale, it is slow and counterproductive. Meeting dates
overlap, where an employee tends to be in two meetings at the same time because both are important.
As stated from letter C, this causes burn out, that instead of settling policies to solve difficulties being
met by the institution, it is creating more problem.
