I. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY.

In today’s digital age, online shopping has become an integral part
of our lives, transforming the way we browse, purchase, and receive
goods and services. With the convenience and accessibility it offers,
online shopping has gained popularity among people of all ages,
including young students. This study aims to explore the online
shopping habits among Grade 10 students of Saint Francis Integrated
National High School during the academic year 2022-2023.

The rapid advancement of technology, coupled with the COVID-19

pandemic, has significantly influenced the way students engage in
various activities, including shopping. According to Google, online
shopping refers to the direct purchase of goods from sellers without any
intermediary involvement. It involves the buying and selling of products
over the internet, offering customers a wide array of choices and
enabling them to compare deals from various intermediaries to select
the most suitable option.

The convenience of online platforms has allowed students to

browse and buy products and services from the comfort of their homes,
saving them time and effort. This study will shed light on the prevalence
of online shopping among Grade 10 students and examine the factors
influencing their choices and preferences in this regard.

Despite the growing prominence of online shopping, there is a

limited number of studies that have investigated the behavior of
students in relation to this phenomenon.

To conduct this study, a comprehensive survey will be

administered to Grade 10 students of Saint Francis Integrated National
High School. The survey will cover various aspects of online shopping,
including the gender who mostly buy online , preferred platforms,
payment methods, and factors influencing their decision-making
process.

Furthermore, we will also examine how online shopping may

impact the academic performance of these students. While it is possible
that online shopping could distract them from their studies, we will also
explore whether it can actually support their academic needs.

By investigating the relationship between online shopping

behaviour and academic performance, we hope to provide insights that
can help educators and students alike. The data collected will be
analyzed and interpreted to provide valuable insights into the online
shopping habits and preferences of Grade 10 students.

By understanding these factors, we can gain a comprehensive

understanding of the online shopping habits of Grade 10 students in
Section Cygnus at SFINHS.

II. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to determine the effects of online shopping to the
behaviour of Grade 10 students in Section Cygnus at Saint Francis
Integrated National High School S.Y. 2022-2023.

following will be sought:

1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

1.1 Age
1.2 Gender
1.3 Name

2. What are the social media platforms they use for online
shopping:
2.1 Lazada
2.2 Shopee
2.3 Zalora
2.4 Shien

3. What mode of payment does the students use for shopping

3.1 Cash on delivery

impact of online shopping habits on the academic performance and
overall well-being of Grade 10 students. Parents can gain an
understanding of how excessive online shopping behaviour may affect
their children’s focus, time management, financial stability, and
psychological well-being. Armed with this knowledge, parents can
initiate discussions about balancing online activities, setting priorities,
and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

TEACHERS this study in online shopping habits can contribute to

financial literacy initiatives led by teachers. Teachers can use the

5
findings to develop lessons or workshops that emphasize responsible
spending, budgeting skills, and the potential risks associated with
impulsive online purchases. This can empower students to make
informed decisions and develop healthy financial habits.
FUTURE RESEARCHERS This will provide a simpler way for future
Researchers to conduct research if their study is relevant to online
shopping of students, and profitability researchers might apply this
study to asses answers to challenges encountered by grade 10 students

Grade 10 students when it comes to online shopping, such as their
preferred online platforms, product categories, or features that attract
their attention. This information can help other customers, including
adults or individuals of similar age groups, gain insights into popular
trends and make informed decisions when selecting online shopping
platforms or products.

IV. METHODOLOGY:

A. RESEARCH DESIGN
This is a quantitative study. This mini-research relied on student
analysis and quota sampling.
B. PARTICIPANTS/RESPONDENTS
Students in Grade 10 Cygnus at Saint Francis Integrated National
High School this academic year are the participants in this mini-
research. 2022-2023.
C. DATA GATHERING
For this study, the researchers created a questionnaire, which our
maths teacher evaluated and approved. Following that, the
questionnaires were circulated via a survey.
D. STATISTICAL TREATMENT
6
This mini-research will gather all the responses to the researcher’s
questionnaire and use a variety of statistical methods, such as
frequency, mean, and percentile rank.
 FREQUENCY – The group of data in the table, as well as the
corresponding class frequency.
 MEAN- This tool was utilized at Saint Francis Integrated
National High School to determine the gender of students,
preferred online shopping apps, form of payment, and
consequences of online purchasing among grade 10 students
in Section Cygnus.

 PERCENTILE RANK- It is described as the percentage of

scores in a distribution that a given score is greater than or
equal to.

The formula on finding the percentile rank is:

V. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION.

The conducted research has shown that online shopping has a

positive impact on students. The majority of Grade 10 Cygnus students,
mostly females, are actively engaged in online ordering and commonly
utilize cash on delivery as their mode of payment. It also emerges that
purchasing study-related items online aids students without negatively
affecting their academic performance.

There are several benefits of online shopping for students. Firstly,

they can acquire study materials at affordable prices that align with
their budgets. Secondly, online shopping applications like Shopee offer
vouchers that can result in price reductions or even free shipping. These
10
advantages provide students with the opportunity to obtain necessary
study materials without causing financial strain.
However, it remains essential for parents to provide guidance to
their children in online purchasing. There is a potential risk of excessive
or inappropriate use of online shopping by their children. Similarly, as
educators, it is incumbent upon teachers to guide and instruct their
students about proper budgeting for online shopping.

Overall, online shopping has positive effects on students.

Nonetheless, it remains the responsibility of parents and teachers to
offer appropriate guidance and instruction to students in order to
prevent potential negative consequences that may arise from online
shopping.
