to analyze data obtained from chance using experiments involving letter
cards (A to Z) and number cards (0-20).

I hope you will have fun while learning.

What I Need to Know

Your previous learning on experimental probability and on how to

record result by listing would be a great help to better understand on
analyzing data obtained from chance using experiments involving letter
(A to Z) and number cards (0-20).

Take your time doing the activities of this module. Good luck and
stay safe.

How to Learn from this Module

What I Need to This part contains learning objectives that
Know are set for you to learn as you go along the
module.

What I know This is an assessment as to your level of

knowledge to the subject matter at hand,
meant specifically to gauge prior related
knowledge
What’s In This part connects previous lesson with that
of the current one.

What’s New An introduction of the new lesson through

various activities, before it will be presented
to you.

What I Need to Know

Directions: Identify what is being referred in each item. Write the letter of your
choice on the space provided before each number.

_______ 1. The probability of tossing a head with a coin.

a. 1/2 b. 2/3 c. 1/4

_______ 2. What is the probability that an even number will occur in rolling a
die ( die is singular of dice).
a. 1/4 b. 2/3 c. 1/2

_______ 3. A pair of die is toss once. Find the probability of getting a sum of 8.
a. 1/12 b.5/36 c. 5/6

_______ 4. A list of all the possible outcomes of an activity or experiments.

a. event b. sample space c. probability

_______ 5. The chance of likelihood that an event will occur. It is expressed as

a fraction between 0 to 1, including 0 and 1; the ratio of
favorable outcomes to the total number of possible outcomes.
a. event b. sample space c. probability

iii
Lesson Analyzing data obtained from chance using
experiments involving letter cards (A to Z) and
1 number cards (0-20).

What’s In

The Grade Five CLSIS pupils make a spinner for the games. The
spinner is divided into eight equal sections numbered 1 through
8. One player spins and the pointer points at 4. What is the
chance of spinning 4 in the spinner?

What do the Grade Five CLSIS pupils make?

How many sections are there in the spinner?
What number does the pointer point in the spinner?
What is the chance of spinning 4 in the spinner?

What is the chances that the new vaccine is effective?

What’s New

Now, let us relate the number of favourable outcomes each has as indicated
by the pointer to the number of possible outcomes in the spinner.

Let us use the illustration below.

1
The spinner has 8 sections with numbers 1 to 8.
The pointer points 4. The number of favourable outcomes each section has as indicated
by the pointer is 1 and the number of possible outcomes is 8. So, the probability of
spinning 4 in the spinner is 1 out of 8 or 1/8.

This symbolizes the probability as: P(4) = 1/8.

𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑓𝑎𝑣𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠

P(event) = 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑎𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑠𝑝𝑎𝑐𝑒

Another example:

What is the probability of spinning an even number?

In the spinner, 2, 4, 6, and 8 are even numbers.
There are 4 even numbers. The number of favourable outcomes is 4 and the number of
outcomes in the spinner is 8. So, the probability of spinning an even number is 4 out of 8
or 4/8 of ½.

What Is It

Probability is the measure of how likely an event is to occur. Each possible result of
a probability experiment or situation is an outcome. The sample space is the set of
all possible outcomes. An event is an outcome of set of outcomes.

The formula:

𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑓𝑎𝑣𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠

P(event) = 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠
