What I Need to Know

This module will help you understand and appreciate ways of


producing sounds on a variety of sources. You will be classifying to various
instruments under the Brass Band and Pangkat Kawayan.

After going through this module, you are expected to explore ways of
producing sounds on a variety of sources that is similar to the instruments
being studied. (MU7LU-lb-f-4)

Specifically, you will be able to:

1. identify the instruments based on Hornbostel-Sachs classification;


2. differentiate the instruments producing sounds from other sources; and
3. value the contribution of each member in producing sounds from
various sources available at home.

What is It

Hornbostel-Sachs Classification of Musical Instruments

In the present time, music studies introduce the classification of musical


instruments called the Hornbostel-Sachs system. Erich Moritz von Hornbostel
(Austrian music scholar) and Curt Sachs (German organologist) devised a system for
classifying musical instruments.
