1. Prerequisites:
A student starting the course should demonstrate the language competence at the B2 level according to the Common European
Framework of Reference for Languages. He/she must be able to ‘understand the main idea of complex text on both concrete
and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization; can interact with a degree of fluency and
spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. He/she can
produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and
disadvantages of various options.”
It is necessary to understand the meaning of terms like: language skills, collocations, word formation.
2. Objectives:
The aim of the course is to develop the skills of reading and listening to authentic or semi-authentic texts, to develop the ability
to predict the content of written and spoken language, using one’s background knowledge in order to understand the text better,
ability to understand the main idea of the text and find details. At the end of the course the student should achieve the C1 level
so he/ she should be able to “understand extended speech even when it is not clearly structured and when relationships are
only implied and not signaled explicitly. The student is able to understand long and complex texts, specialized articles and
longer technical instructions. To achieve this aim the student constantly develops the range of vocabulary.”

9. Assessment requirements and grading system:
The following elements constitute total score (100 points) in the full time mode:
exam consisting of different reading and listening comprehension tasks and tasks checking the knowledge of vocabu-
lary – 50 points
active participation in the classes which means 100% attendance, ability to use a dictionary and preparation of a pre-
sentation for the group – 10 points
short vocabulary quizzes on Moodle – 5 points
mid-semester test – 20 points
tasks on MyEnglishLab platform – 15 points
The following elements constitute total score (100 points) in the retake:
exam as in the first attempt – 80 points
active participation – points remain from the semester work (20 points)
