Sensors(Analogue): It is a device that inputs data into the computer. Data is a

measurement of physical quantity which is continuously changing known as
analogue data. Since computers can only understand digital data, information is
converted using ADC.
USES: Used in both monitoring and control applications.
Type of sensor Application
Temperature Automatic washing machines,
central heating systems
Pressure Burglar alarm system, robotics
Light Automatic doors, street light
control
Sound/acoustic Burglar alarm system, monitoring
liquid and powder flow in pipes
Humidity/moisture Automatic glasshouses, used in
factories where moisture levels are
crucial
pH Chemical processes, environmental
monitoring

Adv:
1. More accurate readings taken when compared to humans
2. Readings are continuous- no break in monitoring.
3. Because monitoring is continuous necessary actions and warnings
initiated immediately
4. Systems can be automatic removing the need of human intervention.

Dis Adv:
1. Faulty sensors can give spurious results.
Graphics Tablets: It is used with a stylus to produce freehand drawings. The
images produced can be stored in a file on a computer.
Uses:
1. Used to produce drawings, computer graphics
2. When written language uses complex characters like (mandarin) these
tablets are used in the form of input than typing them.
3. Used in computer aided design. (CAD)
Adv:
1. Possible to modify drawing before they are input.
2. It’s a very accurate method of drawing.
3. They can record levels of pressure, unlike other point and click devices.
Dis Adv:
1. More expensive than other pointing device like mouse.
2. It takes more time than drawing with pen and paper
3. Menus are often not user friendly
4. Larger drawings (A4, A3 etc.)are expensive to produce.
5. The touch screens are damaged easily.
