Introduction
Danum Valley Conservation Area is located about 80km from Lahad Datu city. It is
considered as one of the world’s most complex ecosystem and classified at Class 1
(Protection) Forest Reserve under the Sabah Forestry Enactment 1968. The enchanted
forest serves as a natural home for the numbers of plants and wildlife species such as
banteng, clouded leopard, orang utan, slow loris, proboscis monkey including the
endangered Bornean pygmy elephant.
Among the activities that were offered to the visitors are guided trails, bird watching and
night drive. Visitors have recorded a lot of remarkable sightings just by being around the
places. Among the famous previous visitors include the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
Prince William and his wife Catherine Middleton, Sir David Attenborough, Dame Judi Dench
and Martha Stewart. Visitors also get the chance to visit an ancient Kadazan Dusun burial
site, complete with belian coffins and ceramic spirit jars. Three burial sites have been
discovered in Danum Valley. Two near the field centre and one below the cliff, overlooking
Borneo Rainforest Lodge.
Prior to May 1995, Danum Valley Conservation Area (DVCA) was an informal protected area
in the Ulu Segama Forest Reserve of primary, undisturbed, predominantly lowland rainforest
with an outstanding complement of Borneo flora and fauna. It was part of the almost one
million forest concession assigned to Yayasan Sabah. In 1976, WWF-Malaysia suggested
that the area is to be declared as a national park. The Danum Valley Conservation Area
(DVCA) is a 438 sq. km tract. However, Yayasan Sabah Board of Trustess resolved on
November 28, 1980, to leave the area within Yayasan Sabah concession but shall leave it
unlogged for the purpose of conservation. Thereafter, it is known as Danum Valley
Conservation Area.
The Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC) is among the top tropical biodiversity research
centre in the world. DVFC is a testament for the long-standing partnership established since
1984, between The Royal Society of United Kingdom’s South East Asia Rainforest Research
Programme (SEARRP) and Danum Valley Management Committee. Previously reserve for
researchers only, the facilities are now extended to visitors looking for a basic stay while
exploring Danum Valley. The area would be administered informally as Conservation Area in
recognition of its outstanding biodiversity value. To help justify forgoing such a large financial
opportunity, the Yayasan Sabah Board of Trustees resolved to make use of Danum Valley for
purposes of research and education, which are in line with its charitable mission.

They were preparing us a beautiful accommodation place to sleep and rest incase we want
to have fun more than one day :
One of the most famous accommodation at the Danum Valley is Danum Valley Field Center.
This hotel is only 10KM from the danum valley conservation area and they have prepared for
us car services to the attraction area in case we did not get any taxi or busses. The price of
this accommodation is affordable and it is very nice to go with friends and family.
Danum Valley, situated within the tropics, usually experiences high humidity and rain all year
round.
The dry season begins from March to October, and you are likely to experience just a short
showers of rain. Also, this is the peak time to watch the orangutans and many other wildlife
roam-free around the jungle.
Low peak season usually falls between December and February where there is a high
chance of heavy rainfall. And this condition might not be favourable for wildlife as they
usually hide when it rains.

It is best to visit Danum Valley in the middle of the year. It will be no problem because some
student will have a break in the middle of the year or some school will be having mid year
holiday, in case you did not have plan, Danum Valley is one of the best place to visit at that
time.
A lot of other internal factors that makes you absolutely should visit this place like local food
attraction, celebration event, local performance and others.

3. CURRENT AND FUTURE TRENDS ADOPTED BY DANUM VALLEY
3.1 System
⮚ The system that Danum Valley centre uses is the tourist attraction system. A
tourist attraction system is defined as an empirical connection of tourist,
nucleus, and marker. Tourists are travelers or visitors seeking leisure-related
experiences, which involve nuclear and marker elements. Nuclei are
discussed in terms of a hierarchy, clusters, and their inviolate zones. Markers
are analyzed in reference to an earlier model of tourism systems, and nine
roles or functions of markers in attraction systems are identified. An
explanation of how places “attract” tourists is proposed. Suggestions are
made for future research and practical applications of the theory.
