II.Project Rationale and Objectives

Mental health is often stigmatized because of a lack of understanding about what

mental health conditions are and what it’s like to live with a mental health condition.
Stigma can also arise from personal thoughts or religious beliefs about people who
have mental health conditions.
The benefits of these programs not only centralize around the student, but
branch out into helping teachers, administrators, and even the community. In my view,
there are a few key benefits that saturate the experience achieved through these
programs when carried out wholly, as well as the key places these needs are met
through.

For students to be able to focus on academic, career, and their needs. For
Parents to provide support for positive interactions between the school counselors/
psychologists and students. For Teachers to encourage positive, collaborative
relationships between all personnel in the school system for the better enhancement of
students education. Lastly, for the community to give the school counselor the
opportunity to provide more services to students and families who in turn create better
communities.

This project aims to achieve the following objectives to support mental health through
school-based services;

1. To develop treatment programs and services that address the various mental
health needs of students and teachers.
2. To promote improved mental well being and increase the awareness through
education and support.
3. To develop a school culture in which teachers and other students support staff
are trained to recognize the early warning signs of mental health issues with
students.

III.Project Description

Mental health stigma can have a hugely negative impact on the lives of people
living with mental health conditions. In fact, stigma can often lead to mental, social, or
even professional consequences for the people who are stigmatized. That is the reason
why the ways school districts implement school-based mental health services vary. To
address this problem, The Department of Education or schools may hire school-based
therapists/psychologists or social workers that can provide access to prevention
programming, early identification of mental health challenges, and treatment options.
Also build a partnership with community mental health organizations and agencies to
develop an integrated, comprehensive program of support and services.
