III. Lesson Procedure
A. Motivation
Class, I will show you a video presentation.
This is related to our topic for today so I want
you to watch and listen carefully because I
will ask you questions regarding the video.

https://youtu.be/OuehNbiYisw

Based on the video, what do you think is our

Lesson for today?
It’s all about Speed, Distance and Time.

To better understand our Topic for today

which is Calculating Speed, Distance, and
Time, you must participate and pay your
attention in our discussion because at the end
of our discussion you’ll be having an activity.

B. Presentation
To test your knowledge, I’ll give you an
activity. In this activity, you will type S if it is
for speed, D if it is for distance, and T if it is
for time. Type your answers in the chat box
You are given 2 minutes to finish the activity.

1. km = ________ 1. D
2. cm = ________ 2. D
3. seconds= ________ 3. T
4. mm= ________ 4. D
5. meter= _______ 5. D
6. mm/sec= ________ 6. S
7. hour= _______ 7. T
8. km/hr = _________ 8. S
9. m/sec= ________ 9. S
10. cm/sec= __________ 10. S

C. Discussion
Let’s distinguish what is distance, speed and
time.

A family travelled from Tuguegarao City to

Aparri Cagayan at an average speed of 60
km/hr for a total of 2 hrs. How far did they
travel?

Here we are asked how far did they travel

which means we need to look for the
Distance.

But what is distance?

Distance is the total length between two
positions.

From the activity a while ago, can you tell me

the units of measurement for distance?

kilometer(km), meter (m), centimeter (cm), or

millimeter (mm)
To solve for the distance, we just simply need
to multiply the speed and the time

Now, let’s go back to our problem.

A family travelled from Tuguegarao City to

Aparri Cagayan at an average speed of 60
km/hr for a total of 2 hrs. How far did they
travel?

Again, what will be the formula in getting the

distance?
distance= Speed×time
Can you please determine the given speed and
time in the problem?
The speed is 60km/hr while the time given in
the problem is 2 hrs.
d=S×t
d=60km/hr × 2 hrs
60 km/hr
d= ×2 hrs
hr
d=120
We can already cancel the units of time which
is hr since,
hr
=1 So we can simply cancel this out.
hr

Now, what could be our unit of measurement?

kilometers(km)

They traveled 120 kilometers.

Let’s go to our next problem.

A car travels 150 km in 2 hrs. Find the speed

of the car.
This time we are looking for the speed.

Speed is a scalar quantity that refers how fast

or slow an object is moving.
Example: 50km/hr

Give me an example of units of measurement

for speed. meter per second (m/sec), kilometer per hour
(km/hr), centimeter per second (cm/sec), or
millimeter per second (mm/sec)

To solve for the speed we just simply need to

divide the distance by the time.

Now let’s try to solve our problem.

A car travels 150 km in 2 hrs. Find the speed

of the car.

Again, what is the formula in getting the

speed? S= d/t

Can you please determine the distance and

time in the problem?
The distance is 150 km and the time is 2 hrs.

S=d/t
150 km
S=
2 hrs
S= 75 km/hr
And the unit of measurement would be?

Therefore, the car travels 50 km/hr.

Let’s go to our next problem.

The school bus traveled 252 kilometers at 72

km/hr. How many hours did it travel?
This time we are looking for the time.
But what is time?
Time is the measurement that tells the
duration of an event or how long does it take.
Example: 4 hours

Give me examples of units of measurement hour(hr), minute(min), second (sec)

for

Time?

To solve for the time we just simply going to Just simply t= d/S
dive the distance by the speed.

Let’s go and solve our problem.

The school bus traveled 252 kilometers at 72 The distance is 252 kilometers and 72 km/hr
km/hr. How many hours did it travel? for speed.
Again, what is the formula for time?

Can you please determine the distance and the

speed in the problem?

t= d/S
252 km
t=
72 km/hr
t=3.5 hr

Since we have two units of kilometer ,we

km
just simply cancel it out. Because =1
km
That remains our unit which is hour.

- 1. d=S×t
Let us try this kind of examples. Give the
formula you’ll use in each item. 70 km/hr
= ×3hrs
hr
1. Calculate the distance that you will travel if
you will drive for 3 hours at 70 km/hr? = 210 km

What is the formula for distance?

Determine the speed and time in the problem.

What will be the answer and unit of

measurement?
- 2. S=d/t

2. Find the speed when the distance is 280 km 280 km

= ×
and time is 4 hrs. 4 hrs
= 70 km/hr
What is the formula for speed?

Determine the distance and time in the

problem.

What will be the answer and unit of

measurement?

3. t=d/S

180 km
=
3. How long does it take to travel 180 45 km/hr
kilometers at 45km/hr?
= 4 hr (It takes 4 hrs to travel 180 km.)
What is the formula for time?

Determine the speed and time in the problem.

What will be the answer and unit of

measurement?
D. Generalization
I will show you a diagram.

What is the diagram shows? -The diagram shows that to easily remember
the formula in getting speed, distance, and
time.
-The distance, speed, and time triangle can
help you rearrange the equations correctly.

Using the diagram can you give the formula

for speed, distance, and time?
The formula in getting speed is S= d÷t
The formula in getting distance is d=S×t
The formula in getting yime is t= d÷S

E. Values Integration
How do we apply the concept of speed,
distance, and time in our daily life?
If your speed in driving motorcycle is slow,
you will have a lot more time to travel.

F. Application
I prepared an activity for you which is entitled
RAINBOWING.
1 will split you into 3 color groups. Group 1
will be the Red team, Group 2 for Green
Team and Group 3 for Blue Team.

Members of each group will send in the chat

box.

Work collaboratively and present your

answers and formula used. You are given 5
minutes to finish the activities.

For Red team, Calculate the distance that you

would travel if you drove for:
a. 2 hours at 30 km/h
b. 7 hours at 65 km/h
c. 9.58sec at 112 cm/sec
To solve for the Distance we used the formula
d=S×t
a. 60 kilometers
b. 455 kilometers
c. 1,072.96 centimeters
For Green Team, how long does it take to
travel?
a. 100 kilometers at 20 km/h
b. 180 kilometers at 45 km/h
c. 350m at 50m/sec To solve for time, we used the formula t=d/S
a. 5 hours
b. 4 hours
c. 7 seconds

For Blue team, calculate the speed.

A car Travels 200 kilometer in 8 hours.
Calculate the average speed of the car in:
a. kilometers per hour
b. kilometers per minute
c. kilometers per second
To solve for speed, we used the formula S=d/t
a. 25 km/hr
b. 0.417 km/min
c. 0.069 km/sec
