Speed – is a scalar quantity that refers to
“how fast an object is moving”. Speed can
be thought of as the rate by which an object
covers distance.
Distance - is the total length between two
positions.
Time - is the measured period during which
an action, process or condition exists or
continues.
Speed, Distance,
and Time
Problem # 1
Jonathan bought a new car. He drove his car
from Manila to Baguio City at an average speed of
65 kilometer per hour, for a total of 4.5 hours.
How far did he travel?
 What is an average speed did Jonathan travelled
from Manila to Baguio City? 65 kilometer per hour
 How many hours from Manila to Baguio City?
4.5 hours
Problem # 1
Jonathan bought a new car. He drove his car
from Manila to Baguio City at an average speed of
65 kilometer per hour, for a total of 4.5 hours.
How far did he travel?
 When speed and time are given and the question
asked is how far so it refers the distance. The
distance travelled is calculated by using the
formula:
Problem # 1 Distance = Speed x Time
Jonathan bought a Given:

Example:
How far will you travel if you ride on a
motorcycle for 2 hours at 40 km/hr?
Given:
Speed = 40 km/hr
Time = 2 hr 40 km/hr

Distance = speed x time
Distance = 40 km/hr x 2 hr
Answer:
You travel 80 kilometers (km).
Problem # 2
A train travelled 480 km at an average speed of
60 kilometer per hour. How long did the journey
take?

 How many kilometer did the train travelled?

480 kilometer
 What is the average speed of the train?

Problem # 2
A train travelled 480 km at an average speed of
60 kilometer per hour. How long did the journey
take?

 When distance and speed are given and the

question asked is how long so it refers the time.
The time taken is calculated by using the formula:

travelled 480 km distance = 480 km
at an average speed = 60 km/hr
speed of 60 time = ?
