Do you know how far is it?

What is the most faraway place you have been to?
How long did you travel?
Do you know the speed at which your vehicle traveled? Have you noticed that
when the speed of the vehicle is faster, the time it takes to reach a place is
lessened?

Pantay Matanda

Tanauan Church
Aldrin’s father drove their tricycle from Pantay Matanda to Tanauan Church at an
average of 55 kilometers per hour, for a total of 4 hours. How far did we travel?

To find the total distance traveled, we simply multiply the given speed and time.
Distance = speed x time
= 55 x 4
= 220 km
Answer : We traveled 220 kilometers

Let’s Remember This!

Example 2
A bus traveled 252 kilometers at 72 km/h. How long does it travel?
T=𝐷
𝑆
= 252 𝑘𝑚
72 𝑘𝑚/ℎ

Time = 3.5 hours

Answer : The bus traveled for 3.5 hours.

Example 3
A car travels 120 km in 2 hours; find the speed of the car.
S=𝐷
𝑇
= 120 𝑘𝑚
2ℎ
Speed = 60 km/h
Answer : The car travels 60km/h.
C. Engagement Activity 1 Using Drill Board
Directions: Complete the table below.

Activity No. 2 Think Pair Share

Calculate speed, distance, and time.
1. If a car travels 400m in 20 seconds how fast is it going?
20 m/s
2. 2. If you move 50 meters in 10 seconds, what is your speed?
5 m/s
3. In a competition, an athlete threw a flying disk 52 meters through the air.
While in flight, the disk traveled at an average speed of 13.0 m/s. How
long did the disk remain in the air? 5 m/s
4. How far can you get away from your little brother with the squirt gun
filled with paint if you can travel at 3 m/s and you have 15s before he
sees you? 45m/s
5. How far can your little brother get if he can travel at 2.5 m/s and in 5
seconds you will discover that his squirt gun has run out of paint? 12.5
m/s

D. Assimilation Prepare different colors of balloons. Inside the balloon the words The Whiz
Kids, Puzzle Masters, Masterminds, Angry Nerds for their grouping purposes.
Pupils must pick one and pop the balloon to know their groups. Each group may
get 1 representative to report their collaborative activity. Teacher may check the
correct answer in reporting.
