Dry pad error & Dry calibration Ch 00

NOTE: This information is provided as an aid in Technical Support for trained support
personnel. Do not attempt to service the system without the appropriate technical training
and the proper tools.
Purpose New Clinitek Atlas version 7.40 software features:
• Improve checks for dry pads to reduce the number of false
dry pad errors.
• Improve dry calibration procedure checks for misaligned
optics to reduce false Dry Cal 00 errors.
• Combine Japan (+/-) units and JCCLS results units
selections to one Results Units selection screen.
• Update user interface screens to reflect our new company
name.

Pad Dispense & Dry Calibration Ch00 errors

Problem
Complaints for and false “Dry Calibration CH 00” and “Pad Dispense error” have
increased with software version 7.10 to 7.30. Analysis of the problem identified that the
algorithms for detecting these conditions required further optimization to reduce the rate
of occurrence of these false generation of these errors.
Additionally this version of software has both of the results reporting formats used in
Japan, conventional and Plus Minus selectable as a setup option. This eliminates the
necessity of having two different versions of software for that market (version 7.12 and
7.30).
Background Information
Dry Calibration CH 00 is reported when the reagent loaded on the instrument does not
match the reagent configuration setting on the instrument. The error check is made
during the calibration process by using the dry reagent reflectance reading on channel 6.
The limits on this reading have been adjusted to reduce the frequency of false Dry
Calibration CH00 errors.

Pad Dispense errors are generated when the wet pad reflectance is compared to the dry
pad reflectance from calibration and the difference between the two is not great enough.
This problem was being reported with some third party controls being used on the Atlas.
The problem was not being reported when clinical samples were being ran or with
Siemens Atlas control strips. To reduce the frequency of this problem being encountered
with control materials the error detection algorithms limits were optimized.
Action
• Customers reporting either of the two situations described should be encouraged to
update the software on they system.
• The Software update kit contains customer bulletin 074D0093-01 which provides
instructions for the customer for updating the software. This bulletin is being sent
out with this bulletin as an attachment.
• Recover and return all older versions of Atlas program cards and send them to the
address below. The program cards can recycled
