Cấu trúc "Used to" là một cấu trúc phổ biến và thường xuyên được sử dụng trong tiếng Anh, rất quen thuộc
với người học. Người đọc có thể dễ dàng gặp cấu trúc này trong cuộc trò chuyện hàng ngày, trong các tác phẩm
điện ảnh, và trong sách báo. Tuy nhiên, vẫn còn nhiều người học chưa thực sự hiểu rõ cách sử dụng "Used to"
để sử dụng nó một cách thành thạo.

3 cấu trúc Used to phổ biến:
 Used to V: đã từng làm gì (chỉ hành động, thói quen trong quá khứ).
 Be used to something/V-ing: đã quen với điều gì/việc gì.
 Get used to something/V-ing: đang quen dần với điều gì/việc gì.
Các cấu trúc tương đương với:
 Used to V = Would V.
 Be used to = Be accustomed to = Be familiar with.
 Get used to = Get accustomed to = Get familiar with.

1. Used to:

 Used to + động từ nguyên mẫu (V): Dùng để thể hiện hành động hoặc tình trạng đã xảy ra thường
xuyên trong quá khứ nhưng hiện tại không còn tiếp tục xảy ra. Đây là cách biểu thị sự thay đổi thời
gian giữa quá khứ và hiện tại.
Ví dụ: I used to smoke when I was younger. (Tôi đã từng hút thuốc khi còn trẻ.)
2. Be Used To:

 Be used to + V-ing / Noun: Dùng để diễn đạt sự quen thuộc hoặc thích ứng với một tình huống, hành
động, hoặc môi trường nào đó. Thường đi kèm với danh động từ (V-ing) hoặc danh từ (Noun) để mô
tả sự quen thuộc.
Ví dụ: She is used to working long hours. (Cô ấy đã quen với việc làm cả ngày dài.)

 Be not used to + V-ing / Noun: Dùng để diễn đạt sự không quen thuộc hoặc khó chịu đối với một tình
huống, hành động, hoặc môi trường nào đó.
Ví dụ: He is not used to the cold weather here. (Anh ta không quen với thời tiết lạnh ở đây.)

 Be getting used to + V-ing / Noun: Dùng để diễn đạt sự thích ứng hoặc quen dần dần với một tình
huống, hành động, hoặc môi trường nào đó.
Ví dụ: I'm getting used to the new job. (Tôi đang thích ứng dần dần với công việc mới.)
Tóm lại, 'used to' thường được sử dụng để nói về sự thay đổi thời gian giữa quá khứ và hiện tại, trong khi 'be

Used to là gì?
Used to có nghĩa tiếng Anh là “done or experienced in the past, but no longer done or experienced”. (Đã làm
hoặc trải nghiệm trong quá khứ nhưng hiện tại không còn làm hay trải nghiệm điều đó nữa.)
Used to có nghĩa tiếng Việt là “đã từng làm gì”. (chỉ hành động, thói quen trong quá khứ.)

Lưu ý: Câu khẳng khẳng định dùng “used to V”, câu phủ định và nghi vấn dùng “use to V”.

Cấu trúc tương đương: Would + V: sẽ làm gì (chỉ thói quen trong quá khứ).
Ví dụ:

 My father would buy me a gift every time he returned from business trips. (Bố sẽ luôn mua quà cho
tôi mỗi khi ông ấy trở về từ những chuyến đi công tác.)

Các công thức Used to và cách dùng cụ thể

Be used to something/V-ing
Nghĩa tiếng Anh: familiar with a condition or activity. (Đã quen với một điều kiện hay hoạt động nào đó.)
Nghĩa tiếng Việt: đã quen với điều gì/việc gì.
Lưu ý:
 “Be used to V-ing” dùng để chỉ sự hoàn toàn quen với việc gì, tức là quá trình làm quen đã kết thúc.
 Cấu trúc này có thể sử dụng với các thì ở quá khứ, hiện tại và tương lai.
Ví dụ:

 She wasn’t used to being scolded so she cried a lot after their argument. (Cô ấy không quen với việc
bị mắng nên đã khóc rất nhiều sau trận cãi vã hôm đó.)
 I’m used to the city now and don’t get lost any more. (Tôi đã quen với thành phố và không còn bị lạc
nữa.)
 You will soon be used to living alone. (Bạn sẽ sớm quen với việc sống một mình thôi.)
Cấu trúc tương đương:

 Be accustomed to something/V-ing (C1): quen với điều gì/việc gì.

Ví dụ: I am not accustomed to being treated this way. (Tôi không quen với việc bị đối xử như thế này.)

 Be familiar with something/V-ing (B2): quen với điều gì/việc gì.

Ví dụ: Once you are familiar with the village, you will realize how beautiful it is. (Khi cậu quen thân với ngôi
làng này, cậu sẽ nhận ra nó đẹp đến nhường nào.)

Get used to V-ing

Nghĩa tiếng Anh: becoming familiar with something (Đang trở nên quen với điều gì/việc gì).
Nghĩa tiếng Việt: đang dần quen với điều gì/việc gì.
Lưu ý:
 “get used to V-ing” dùng để chỉ sự đang dần quen với việc gì, tức là quá trình làm quen đang diễn ra,
chưa đạt tới sự quen thuộc hoàn toàn như “be used to V-ing”.
 Cấu trúc này có thể sử dụng với các thì ở quá khứ, hiện tại và tương lai.

Ví dụ:

 She only got used to living in London after 2 month moving here. (Phải 2 tháng sau khi cô ấy chuyển
tới đây cô ấy mới bắt đầu quen dần với cuộc sống ở London.) (Cô ấy vẫn chưa hoàn toàn quen với
điều này.)
 He’s getting used to the noise now. It made him unable to sleep when he first moved in. (Bây giờ anh
