IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing or presenting REVIEW
the new lesson Note to the Teacher:

● Divide the class into four groups.

Let students write on a piece of paper the things they learned about
arithmetic sequence and present through
a. Song/Yell
b. Poem

c. Chant
d. Reporting
●Process all groups’presentation.

ACTIVITY 1: EXPLORATION

Note to the Teacher: (same grouping)

 Provide each group with strips of paper
 Out of the strips of paper, let the assigned group find the first 5 terms
given the following rule:
Group 1 – an = n +4
(expected answer: 5,6,7,8,9)
Group 2 – an = 2n – 1
(expected answer: 1,3,5,7,9)
Group 3 – an = - n +3
(expected answer: 2,1,0,- 1, - 2)
Group 4 – an = 2(n+3)
(expected answer: 8,10,12,14,16)

 Process all groups’ answers.

B. Establishing a purpose for
the lesson Motive Questions:
1. How did you find the activity?
(answers may vary)
2. Did you find it easy to give the first 5 terms of each sequence?
(answers may vary)
3. What if you will be tasked to give the first 25 terms in each
sequence?
(expected answer: time consuming)

Note: Lead the students to the concept of “determining the nth term of an
arithmetic sequence”

C. Presenting examples of the ACTIVITY 2:

new lesson Finding the nth Term of an Arithmetic Sequence

With the same groupings, you will be given the terms of an arithmetic
sequence and you will be asked to find its nth term.

Direction:
What is the nth term for each sequence below?

1. Group 1 – 3,4,5,6,7,…
(expected answer: an = n+2)
2. Group 2 – 3,5,7,9,11,…
(expected answer: an = 2n+1)
DAILY LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS GRADE 10

3. Group 3 – 12,15,18,21,…
(expected answer: an = 3n+9)
4. Group 4 – 12,5,- 2, - 9, - 16,…
(expected answer: an = - 7n+19)
D. Discussing new concepts
and practicing new skills The teacher discusses the the concepts of finding the nth term. (Refer
#1 to theWorksheet above).

E. Discussing new concepts Discussion

and practicing new skills In the activities you have just done, you were able to enumerate the
#2 terms of a sequence given its nth term and vice versa.
F. Developing Mastery Think-Pair Share
Give an arithmetic sequence of at least 5 terms and give its nth term.
(answers may vary)
G. Finding practical
applications of concepts Can you give real life examples where the concept of finding the nth term
and skills in daily living be used?
(answers may vary)

H. Making Generalizations
and abstractions about  Knowing all of these will enable you to easily understand a particular
the lesson sequence.
 Any volunteer who can summarize the steps or give some techniques
on how to determine the nth term given an arithmetic sequence?
(expected answer: accept all answers and agree which
to adapt)
I. Evaluating learning Work by 2’s or by 3’s
Give the nth term of each set of arithmetic sequence below:
1. - 1, - 2, - 3, - 4, -5,…
(expected answer: an = - n)

2. 3,4,5,6,7,…
(expected answer: an = n +2)
3. 1,3,5,7,9,…
(expected answer: an = 2n – 1)
J. Additional Activities for Determine whether the following nth terms are true for an
application or arithmetic sequence:
remediation 1. an = n+5
(expected answer: true)
n
2. an = - 3
(expected answer: no)
3. an = 2n-3
(expected answer: true)
n
4. an = 2 – 1
(expected answer: no)
