Department of Commerce inaugurated Comet Club for the academic year 2020-2021
on 21st November 2020 and also organized the webinar for the students on the topic “THINK
DIFFERENT: the world is yours”. Ms. S. Jayashree, Chief Manger, United India Insurance
Company Ltd, Corporate office, Chennai, was the Chief Guest. The program began with
invocation by Ann Mary Mathew, II-year B.com (G) followed by the welcome address by S.
Subash, III, year B.com (G).

Dr. Sripriya Arunachalam, Principal, Alpha Arts and Science College delivered the
presidential address. She explained the importance of the club, its need and role in the
enhancement of skills of students. The new office bearers were then introduced by Ann Mary
Mathew, II year B.com (G). The Chief Guest was introduced by M. Keerthana Devi, Comet
Club, Vice president

The Chief Guest and the speaker of the webinar Ms. S. Jayasree , Chief Manger, United
India Insurance Company Ltd, Corporate office, Chennai, addressed about how everyone has
their own expectation or imagination on how the world should be and the challenges in
transcending those expectations to reality. She motivated the students to see the world in a
different way and in a right way to achieve more in life.

Vote of thanks was delivered by Chelsea Sasha D’silver, III-year B.com (G) President.
Overall, the inauguration and webinar went very well.

Department of Commerce organized a “Virtual Workshop on Tax Planning” on


14.12.2020. CA. S. Varadhan, Director, M/S. Ashok Nagar Benefit Fund Ltd, Chennai, was
the Resource person. The programme began with Bible Reading by Ann Mary Mathew, II-
year B.com (G) followed by the welcome address by Chelsea Sasha D’silver, President,
Comet Club.

Dr. Dr.Sripriya Arunachalam, Principal, Alpha Arts and Science College


delivered the presidential address. She enlightened the audience on the importance of Tax
Planning. The Chief Guest was introduced by S. Nameera, Event coordinator, Comet Club. A
total of 101 students participated in the program.

The Resource Person of the workshop CA S.Varadhan clearly explained about the
various aspects of the rules and the tax exemptions available under IT Act and the need to
pay tax by each individual. And he imparted knowledge about the various tax plans according
to their income. The question and answer session was quite interactive.

Department of Commerce organized a “Guest lecture on finance for future” on


22.01.2021. Balaji Shanmugan,RegionalBranch Manager,Ventura securities Limited was the
Guest Speaker. The programme began with Bible Reading by Akshayavani, Member, Comet
Club followed by the welcome address by Ann Mary Mathew Member Comet Club.

Dr.Sripriya Arunachalam, Principal, Alpha Arts and Science College delivered the
presidential address. She enlightened the audience on the importance of finance for future.
The Chief Guest was introduced by Akshayavani, Member Comet Club. A total of 109
students participated in the program.
The Chief Guest Balaji Shanmugan,Regional Branch Manager, Ventura securities
Limited clearly explained about financial market and the safe methods of investing money in
Primary Market. He gave insights about the primary market. The question-and-answer
session was quite interactive

Department of Commerce organized a “Voice of alumni on the topic career


opportunities” on 25.02.2021. Mohammed Baaqier, Ajith Kumar, was the resource person.
The program began with Bible Reading by Ann Mary Mathew followed by the welcome
address by M. Keerthana Devi, Vice-President, Comet Club.

The chief guests were introduced by S. Nameera and B. Sangavi, Event


coordinator’s, Comet Club. A total of 120 students participated in the program.

The resource persons of the program Mohammed Baaqier, Ajith Kumar clearly
explained about the various ways to improve ourselves and opportunities in law and the user
experience of the software and how to use it in the business to develop the business.

Vote of thanks was delivered by A.P. Durai Selvan, Joint Secretary, Comet Club.
The overall program and the student’s response were good.

Department of commerce organized an interdepartmental oratorical competition
on the topic “COVID – 19 second wave” the event was judged by P.Vijayalakshmi, Asst.
Profesor, Department of Commerce. Participants had 3 minutes time each to do their
presentation. Students from the Department of BSc (computer Science), BBA, BSc (BT) have
participated enthusiastically.

The competition was conducted in a smooth manner and the speech given by
each participant was fully information and knowledgeable. All the participants did their best
in the competition. Anita Bhasi Basumatary BSc (BT) and Esther David BSc (BT) won the 1 st
and 2nd prize respectively.

Staff Achievement

Ms. B. Kalaivani, Asst. professor, Department of Commerce published a book titled


‘Marketing’ during the academic year 2020.

Dr. S. Srimathi, Asst. Professor, Department of Commerce published paper titled’ Emotional
Intelligence and job satisfaction: A Correlational Study’ in the 2nd International
Multidisciplinary Conference on Information Science, Management Research and Social
Science ICISMRSS – 2021, conducted by Alpha Arts and Science College.

Dr. S. Srimathi, Asst. Professor, Department of Commerce published a book titled Human
Resource Accounting on December 2020.

Mr. M. Santosh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce published paper titled
‘Enhancing Entrepreneurship and work based learning in higher education’ in the
National Conference on 26th February 2021, conducted by Alpha Arts and Science College.
