Long Range Plan Philosophy/Rationale


I believe that one of the main purposes of Physical Education is to help students become

lifelong active learners. I believe that every student is capable of growth that allows them to

reach their full potential and I believe that they can reach this by creating a Physical Education

classroom, a positive learning environment, that allows students to feel included, supported, and

be fully engaged, which will allow them to become lifelong active learners. By being lifelong

active learners, students are able to take responsibility in taking initiative in participating,

finding, or creating activities that they truly enjoy, which will allow them to grow into their full

potential, with the focus of leading an active and healthy lifestyle.

In order to achieve the goal of helping students become lifelong active learners, the plan

for the course, Physical Education 20, is to expose students in a variety of activities that require

different skills and focusing on having majority of the activities being team sports activities,

which will aid in helping in creating a positive learning environment that will allow students to

feel included, supported, and fully engaged. Locations of where the class will be held is planned

weekly and unit plans will be planned for 2-3 days, which will allow more exposure of activities

for students to participate in. The activities that are planned will be common activities that

individuals take part in after graduating High School, such as Ultimate Frisbee, Softball, or

Volleyball. By exposing students to these types of activities, they will gain the skills and

knowledge that will allow them to comfortably participate in any sport or activity, which will aid

students to lead an active lifestyle.
