Engagement will be increased by doing Gagalympics GLOs: Students will: ● General Outcome A o Students will acquire skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities ● General Outcome C o Students will positively work together and/or with each other SLOs: Students will: ● A8-5: demonstrate ways to receive, retain and send an object with varying speeds, accuracy and distance in skills specific to an activity. ● A8-6: select, combine and perform manipulative skills by using elements of space awareness, effort and relationships, with and without objects, to improve performance ● C8-5: recommend practices that contribute to teamwork Lesson Students will: Objectives ● demonstrate their manipulative skills of striking the ball in Gaga Ball
● perform manipulative skills by using their spacial awareness of trying to dodge the ball and ensuring that they know where the ball is or where it might go
Stage 2: Assessment Evidence
Assessment ● Participation
● Observation
Stage 3: Learning Experience
Prior to Safety: ● When whistle is blown, stop and ● 1-4 Large Gator skin balls Lesson: listen ● Gaga Ball Pit ● No kicking the ball ● When you are sitting out, don’t ● Fake Medals lean or sit on the boards ● Remind students to be aware and ● Speaker/Music be careful of balls ● Talk about the boundaries Time: Content/Description Differentiation/ Assessments: Introduction: 3 ● Get students to sit in front of me while I take attendance minutes Pre-assessment (FA) Subject/Grade: Grade 8 Physical Education Lesson/Date: Gaga Ball Time: 49 Minutes ● Ensure that the Gaga Ball Pit is safe and secure

two activities, which will be Elephant Soccer and Elimination/Gagalympics ● Give students a heads up to think of a country they want to represent Transition: Get everyone to sit down or pay attention Body: 10 Learning Activity 1: Elephant Soccer ● Demonstration minutes ● Basic Rules: of how to do o Players will make a circle and have their feet together the activity having a space in between their legs will help o Goal is to try striking the ball in between other players legs Visual o Players will start by using both hand clasped to act as a Learners trunk of an elephant ● Observation o If the ball goes between their legs they put one hand behind will allow their back teacher to o The second time it goes under their leg, they turn around so provide that the back is toward the centre, but they may use both feedback to hands again. The third time it happens they are eliminated students or they will be turned into a “Blackhole”, where if the ball goes in between their legs, the person that striked it will ● Allowing lose a life Peers to do o The person that is a black hole can not strike the ball demonstration ● Separate the class to have 2-3 circles will allow them to feel ● Start with 1 ball, then increase as time goes more at ease knowing that they can also perform the skills ● Assess their striking form and how well they aim it. Assess their participation and how much effort they put in Transition: Bring everyone back by blowing the whistle 30 Learning Activity 2: Gagalympics ● Demonstration minutes ● Explain to everyone that we will be doing Gagalympics, which is of how to do just a variation of an elimination game, but we’re making it more the activity fun will help Subject/Grade: Grade 8 Physical Education Lesson/Date: Gaga Ball Time: 49 Minutes Visual ● Get students into groups of 4-5. Get their country that they want to Learners represent ● Allowing ● Basic Elimination game rules, when a person gets hit with the ball Peers to do they are out for good demonstration ● Number of balls will increase as time goes will allow them to feel ● Get all the students to get in line and stand before the stage to do more at ease an announcement of names and what countries they are knowing that they can also ● When their name is called with their country, they will enter the perform the pit. Encourage students to cheer. Make sure there is music. The skills Chicago Bull entrance song is encouraged ● Observation ● This could take a while, but it'll make kids feel included by having will allow their name announced teacher to provide ● Student can work together with their team countries to eliminate feedback to other competitors students ● However, if the last 3 people are from the same country, they have ● Assess how to eliminate each other despite being in the same team students are ● Once everyone is in the pit, show students the medals working together and if ● Once every student is ready, throw the ball in the pit and make they are working students yell “GA, GA, BALL”. Students have to touch the barrier together as a first. once everyone has yelled “BALL”, students can go get the team ball ● Increase ball as time passes by and add more than “one” touch if its slow ● Once you get the top 3 and the winner, do a closing ceremony. Play the Olympic Closing Ceremony song while handing out the medals ● Basic Rules:
o Tag someone with the ball by striking the ball and
DIRECTLY hitting the opponent’s foot, lower leg or knee.
o Once hit, you are down/out. If playing in a single large
area, remain down until the person who hit you is out, then you are back in play (“revenge” style). If you are not sure who hit you, select someone at random. If you are playing in a multi-game location and you are knocked out, move to the other game location (pit).
o If struck between the knee and hip, no one is out. However,
if struck above the hip, then the “striker” is out…this is to Subject/Grade: Grade 8 Physical Education Lesson/Date: Gaga Ball Time: 49 Minutes
encourage the ball to be played down low.
o Decide whether you wish to play with 2 contacts allowed or
1 (a block is considered a contact). I suggest starting with 2 and then reducing.
o Exemption rule = a “wall hit”…if the ball has been
contacted (example a block), a student can take the ball and instead of going after an opponent, hit the wall with the ball and that frees up / allows the player to now have a “hit” towards and opponent.
o Students should be cautioned about maintaining a low
follow through on their hits to prevent physical contact with others. The ball is never dribbled, picked up, or held.
o Watch for allegiances getting out of hand in targeting
specific individuals on a constant basis.
o If using the pits, do not allow students to lean or sit on the
boards.
Transition: Get everyone to sit down and pay attention
Consolidation: 2 Review of Key Concepts/Point to Next Class: minutes ● Get the students to help clean up
● Cool down: Breathing
● Thank the students
● Remind them that it will be Thrilling Thursday next class
Stage 4: Reflection March 8, 2023 Today’s lesson went amazing! Set the expectations early and set the teams really quick at the beginning. Kids were having fun and were very engaged. There was another student that took a long time in the bathroom, I need to keep an eye on it for next class. Classroom management was also good
