Goals and Weekly Reflection

Goal 1: Assessment

 Going into my PS2, I really wanted to focus on my assessment as a Physical Education

teacher. In my PS1, I didn’t focus much on assessing students in Physical Education,

instead I was focused more on how the students will enjoy the activities. Assessment in

Physical Education has always been one of my goals and want to improve on. In my PS2,

I will reach this goal by asking my TA for feedback on my assessment, focus on what I

want to assess for my students, and how I’m going to assess them.

Goal 2: Extra Curricular Activities

 One of the reasons why I was excited to be placed in a Junior High School is getting the

opportunity to coach a sport for the students. I’m hoping to be able to coach Basketball

and Track and Field, because those are two sports that I’m confident in and I believe that

I have the skills to help the students improve. I will reach this goal by asking the Physical

Education Department if I can help with coaching with whatever sport. If I can’t coach, I

will find other extra curricular activities that I can help with.

Week 1 Reflection:

 Week 1 was a success! I was able to get my bearings for teaching and I’m feeling

confident. I had a fun time with Physical Education, because we got to do fun

tournaments and activities. I was also able to have a better understanding of what the

school wants me to assess, which helped me out with my goal of improving my

assessment. I kept asking my TA a bunch of questions about assessment, and I think he

got annoyed at one point, but oh well. I reached out to the teachers if I can help out with
the Basketball team and the Andrina said that she will talk to the parents to see if they

want the help. I’m hoping I could help with Basketball. Health was also a success; I am

feeling more confident with my assessments in Health and students are doing such an

amazing job in their assignments.

Week 2 Reflection

 This week, I taught the first half of my unit. I am able to help out with Basketball with

the Senior Girls now, even though I feel like I’m not part of the coaching decisions to

decide who would be on the team. I’m just happy I’m able to help and make connections

with students. I was better with assessment; however, I didn’t focus too much on the

Grade 9’s, I need to do better. I need to let the students know what I’m assessing and

what the expectations are more.

Week 3 Reflection

 This week went so much better! It is the second half of the unit and I have already taught

it before. I modified some of my lesson plans to make it better compared to the previous

weeks. I also had more time to fully assess the students while doing the Bald Eagle

Tournament. I also thought that potentially students could run the tournament by

themselves, and I can assess them while they are running the class. I am having more of a

voice with coaching Basketball, and I am making connections more, which is what I

hoped, and I am having a fun time. I also got the chance to input grades that I assessed

with my students into PowerSchool, which was surreal, and it made me more excited

about being a teacher in the future.

Week 4 Reflection
 Within this week, I focused a lot on assessment for all the subjects that I’m teaching. For

instance, I have self assessments everyday for Basketball and Handball for my students to

rank themselves from 1-4 based on how they did on their stems. While in Health, I

created rubrics for the Goal Setting and Resilience worksheets for students to use as a

guide to know what my expectations are. So far, all the assessments have been working

well, students are being honest with their assessments on their everyday assessments.

They mark themselves like what I have given them so far. While in Health, students’

work has been much better, because students are able to use the rubric as guide to help

them get a better grade on their work. With senior girls’ basketball team in the school, we

had our first game, and the girls did amazing! I helped those that were nervous and didn’t

know the plays. It was amazing to watch them play, and I am so proud of how well they

did in their first game.

Week 5

 This week was the second half of all my units. I marked my student’s self evaluation

sheets for both Basketball and Gaga/Hand/Dodgeball to show students what I have them

marked as from their previous week. I did this, because I wanted students to see how

close they are to their mark that I have given them compared to the marl that they have

been giving themselves. This allowed students to motivate themselves to reach their

desired mark and to ask me what they can do to increase their mark. Doing this self

assessment worksheet truly helped me with my goal of getting better with assessment,

because I felt like I was working together with the students to help them reach their

desired mark and most students weren’t afraid to ask for help. For basketball, the head

coach was away for this week, and I had to step up with helping with the basketball team
with their teams, along with the 3 other teachers with me. We had a game this week and

lost, however we were in a tournament where I gave the team more structure by proving

them more with certain positions, showing them a play, and being more prepared to

motivate the players, which resulted in our team winning. The feeling of coaching the

basketball team made me excited and ecstatic, because I was so proud of our players by

following all the instructions that I have given them and giving their maximum effort to

win the games. I’m so excited in the future where I would be able to hopefully coach

again in the school that I would work at.
