RMU Operation Procedure

General Checks:-

1. First ensure the manometer pointer position

which indicates the SF6 gas pressure inside
the tank.

Only operate the RMU if it is in GREEN

ZONE.

If it is in RED ZONE don’t operate & inform

to C&S.

In order to operate SF6 gas filled Ring Main Unit it is necessary to follow below mentioned
instruction:-

1. Earth switch opening operation (CI1

operating mechanism: Incoming/Outgoing
function)
This operation is only possible when the earth
switch is closed.
- Insert the handle into the Earth switch
operation shaft
- Open the Earth switch by operating the
handle counter-clockwise (left side)

This operation:
- Interlocks the front panel for access to the
cables
- Unlocks the Switch disconnector (it is now
possible to close it)
2. Earth switch closing operation (CI1
operating mechanism: Incoming/Outgoing
function)
This operation is only possible when the Earth
switch is opened.
- Insert the handle into the Earth switch
operation shaft
- Check that the cables are not alive (live
cables indication lamps)
Close the Earth switch by operating the handle
clockwise (right side).

This operation:
- Closes the Earth switch
- Unlocks the cable access front panel
Interlocks the Switch disconnector (it is not
possible to close it.
3. Switch closing operation (CI1 operating
mechanism – Incoming/Outgoing function)
This operation is possible only when the Earth
switch is opened.
- Insert the handle into the Switch disconnector
operation shaft.
- Operate it clockwise up to the final position
(right side).

This operation:
- Closes the Switch disconnector
- Interlocks the Earth switch (it is not possible
to close it).

4. Switch opening operation (CI1 operating

mechanism – Incoming/Outgoing function)
This operation is only possible when the
Switch disconnector is closed.
- Insert the handle into the switch disconnector
operation shaft.
- Turn the handle counter-clockwise up to the
final position (left side).

This operation:
- Opens the Switch disconnector
- Unlocks the Earth switch (it is possible to
close it)
5. Circuit breaker spring (re)charging (Cable
protection function – CDV mechanism)

Circuit breaker is fitted with a standard closing

spring manual (re)charge mechanism. The
manual charging operation is made applying a
pumping action with the charging lever. After
about ten pumping movements, the
(re)charging will be completed and signalised
by the charging condition indicator and lever
action stops to charge closing springs

Circuit breaker operation (Cable protection

function – CDV mechanism)

The circuit breaker closing/opening operation

is obtained by pressing the closing/opening
pushbutton

Open – Red Push Button

Close – Green Push Button

This Operation is only possible when Earth Switch Closed.
