Motor starting reactor as per IEC-60076-6 standard (or IS 5553 Part-3) designed, manufactured and
tested at manufacturer’s works to ensure smooth and reliable operation for the site conditions.
a) Motor starting reactor p a n e l s h a l l b e indoor, metal clad with separate metal enclosed
compartments complete with vacuum bypass device with its control circuitry, bus bars for power
cable terminations, push buttons with indicating lamps.
c) Staring current shall be limited to 3.0 to 3.5 times the full load of the motor with power factor
improvement capacitors and shall reduce it to less than 3.0Ifl if motor torque speed and pump torque
speed allows so.
d) The three phase windings of the Motor starting reactors shall be made of copper insulated winding
with insulation class F and Max.Temperature of winding shall be limited to that of class B. Motor
starting reactor should be air core type air Cooled and mounted in dust and vermin proof panel
suitable for indoor mounting. The three phase coils must be separately available for repairs in
future. Each coil must be wound on epoxy bobbin. Making a common epoxy casting for three coils is
strictly not acceptable since it avoids thermal dissipation and also any repair to one coil makes all
the three coils assembly useless.
All coils should be vacuum pressure impregnated.
f) Starting of motor shall be from either p a n e l located near to motor or shall be from PLC.
Necessary wiring diagram shall be provided, considering staring interlock, trip circuit, staring and
running mode signal and terminated suitably.

Motor starting reactor manufacture must measure impedance XL value at the shop floor at each tap
and calculate and confirm the starting current by this method. Starting current should be fully
established at ‘manufacturer’s shop floor’ by this calculation method. Further manufacturer must
prove starting current at the pumping station.
7. Design calculation must be submitted along with the tender. Manufacturer must also design the
winding such that maximum temp rise after the two consecutive starts should be less than ‘class B’.
Design calculation for temp.rise must be submitted in tender.
h) Suitable Thermistor /RTD should be embedded in to all 3 windings with digital temperature scanner
for protection. There should be audio-visual alarm in case of the temperature of coils are higher or
any such failure.
i) Manufacturer must provide a current sensing relay protection to ensure safety of coils in case the
failure.

Performance Test Site Test Manufacturer should prove the motor starting
current as per design or lesser as guaranteed
by measuring the same with D.S.O. or power
analyzer.

2. Manufacturer must have supplied and commissioned at least 5 units of 11KV voltage and KW
capacity or above during last 3years. Satisfactory performance certificate of working for more than
1year must be submitted along with the Offer.
