How MPW Basketball Tournament helps to improve my skills in basketball

Basketball is my favorite sport. The reason why is because I’ve been playing basketball since I was in
elementary. However, it is just for fun, with no official referees only for the sake of “papawis lang” and I
enjoy watching PBA and NBA games on television. Basketball is a game where two teams play against
each other and the goal of each player is to shoot the ball into the basket of the opponent. There are
different skills in basketball such as shooting, dribbling, defending, rebounding, and passing. There are
also different players on the team. The different positions are small forward, power forward, point
guard, shooting, and center. I am the Power forward. The power forward play a role similar to centers;
they typically play “offensively” with their backs towards the basket and position themselves defensively
under the basket in a zone defense or against the opposing power forward in man-to-man defense.

Because of my dedication to the sports of basketball, I come up with the idea of having a Basketball
League in the Ministry of Public Works; my purpose is for health benefits of employees at the same time
to give enjoyment to all the employees of the MPW and to promote camaraderie among the employees,
especially those employed in the district offices. I and together with some employees in the office, are
eager to push this tournament, and it so happened that our head of agency approved the letter to have
this basketball tournament. The tournament is called “PUBLIC WORKS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
SEASON 1” the participants come from different divisions in the Region office, one team for each district
of Maguindanao, including the Project Management Office Maguindanao, so a total of eight teams
overall. The tournament format is round robin. All teams have the chance to play all the teams. Yours
truly is one of the players in Team Finance, and I am excited to play because it was my first time playing
this kind of basketball tournament. First, I was so nervous because of the crowd watching me and I could
not play well because I was hesitant to move. After all, I was afraid to commit mistakes especially in the
crucial game. But then, I realize that to play well to win our team.

Therefore, I can say that this Public Works Basketball Tournament was a great help to improve my skills
in basketball not totally 100%, but at least I improved my basic skills like shooting, dribbling, defending,
rebounding, and passing. Not only my basketball skills have been improved but also It taught me how to
be a good leader and to work well under pressure. This has become exceptionally handy during test
time. Participating in basketball has given me very useful problem solving skills as well as keeping me
healthy and in great shape. Most importantly, taking part in sports has given me the confidence that I
know I could never live without.
