Of all the macro skills of language, viewing is perceived as a non-essential skill,

thinking that videos are meant for entertainment purposes only. However, the arrival

of the internet and the digital revolution allow people to capture still and moving

images that contributed to an extraordinary rise in visual communication becoming

the primary mode of communication (Donaghy, 2020). Using Edgar Dale’s Cone of

Experience, the use of continuous and interrupted viewing strategies was explored in

watching an authentic teacher-made video to grade 8 learners. The purposes of this

study are to determine the viewing comprehension level of the learners, to identify

how the participants perceive the viewing strategies and their recommended activities

to increase their viewing comprehension skills. Results revealed that learners’ viewing

comprehension after receiving the interventions belong to Satisfactory Level;

however, Continuous viewing strategy is preferred by the learners in terms of the

passing rate. Participants claimed that both continuous and interrupted strategies aid

in their viewing comprehension skills, but they suggested group activity as part of the

lesson after their viewing experience.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

Definition of Terms

The following are defined in the study as follows:

Modular Learning. This is a method of education that involves individualized

instruction that allows learners to use Self-Learning Modules (SLMs) in print or digital

format.

Online Learning. It is a method of education whereby students learn in a fully

virtual environment.

Significance of the Study

SSS National High School.

Learners. This study will help the students positively use watching videos in

enhancing their viewing comprehension skills. They will be aware of their weaknesses

and strengths in paying attention to videos. Through this awareness, the students

may use their strength to enhance their capabilities and improve their weaknesses.

This study can be of help to them since this undertaking aims to assess the

contributing factors which hinder them from learning and understanding such

passages and texts.

METHODOLOGY

In this chapter, the nature of the research design and methodology is

described. Also, this chapter includes the location area where the data

gathering was conducted. The description of the sample, the instruments and

the process of data collection and procedure are also described here. (do not

change anything here).

Research Design

In this study, the researchers used the qualitative- quantitative design. The

qualitative part goes to assessing the students’ satisfaction on the (input your

topic here) and the quantitative part goes to the analysis and interpretation of

the recommendation of the respondents.

The research method used is Survey Research. The researchers survey

and checklist to solicit the responses of the sample.

The Sample (edit this part)

8
SSS NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
The sample, consisting of grade 7 students, was taken from the population

of grade 7 students and is assumed to be representative of the whole

population. These students were selected through purposive sampling. These

students were to be monitored on the effect of the intervention on their

learning—the result of assessment tests. The location area of data collection

was from a public school in Mandaluyong City—Highway Hills Integrated

School (HHIS).

The Instruments

The instruments that were used to gather data are to measure the students’

students’ satisfaction on the (input your topic here).

The instruments that were used are (1) survey of the student’s satisfaction;

and (2) a questionnaire for students’ perception towards further

recommendation and suggestion for the improvement of a school aspect. The

instruments were all made by the researchers.

The satisfaction checklist was based on the 4-Point Likert Scale. The

respondents will choose among 4 options in correspondence to every

statement or question. The researchers edited some of the criteria so as to the

respondents can relate themselves well. This checklist is used to describe

students’ satisfaction to a certain aspect at SSS National High School.

9
SSS NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
The second instrument that was used is the questionnaire. This was used

by the researcher to confirm how students the students are likely to

recommend SSS National High School in general.

The questionnaire consists of the following questions: “(1) What are your

further suggestions and feedback for the improvement of (input your topic

here).

(2) Overall, how likely are you going to recommend SSS National High School

to your family, friends and other relatives? Why do you say so?

The Data Collection

In partial fulfillment of the requirements for Mini-Research under

Mathematics and English subjects, the researchers were tasked to perform

mini-research for June 2023. The following schedule showed the phases done

by the researcher for the whole process of data gathering:

DATE DATA GATHERING ACTIVITY

June 1 – 9, 2023 Crafting of research questions, survey

and questionnaire.

June 9 – 12, 2023 Collection of data through the survey

and questionnaire.

June 13, 2023 Data Gathering Procedure

June 15, 2023 Presentation of gathered data

10
SSS NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
During the conduct of survey checklist, the researchers guided the

respondents in answering the rating scale. After the survey checklist, the

researchers evaluated the responses of the students, and the data were

presented on the next chapter.

The questionnaire was also facilitated by the researchers. The responses

would substantiate the main instrument and would support the results of this

study.

The Data Analysis Procedure

The researchers went through the following procedures for this study:

administered the survey checklist, and then the questionnaire afterwards. The

schedule of the data collection is presented in the last section. Then, the

researchers assessed the responses of the students and had tallying of the

responses derived from the checklist and questionnaire.

The responses of the students from the questionnaire and the checklist are

tallied, analyzed and interpreted for the confirmation of data for conclusion.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT

The researcher used the Measures of Dispersion, specifically, the Standard

Deviation. This provides an indication of how far the individual responses to a

question vary or "deviate" from the mean. Low standard deviation means that
11

the data are clustered around the mean, and high standard deviation indicates

the data are more spread out, and may be far from the mean.

Chapter 4

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter presents and interprets the data gathered from the Survey

Checklist and Questionnaire administered to the sample of grade 10 students

at SSS National High School, Marikina City

Also in this chapter are different tables and figures used to present the data

gathered. Table and figures are labelled accordingly.
